Here's my question: Is there a way to grab the .apk for it from my earlier SENSE-based rom and install in under GSB? I'm assuming I'd have to reflash xtrSENSE, use something like RootExplorer to find and copy the appropriate file, reflash GSB and try to install the QuickOffice application.
Thx.
Yes there is a way to grab the app from a ROM; here it is though, I've done it for you. Just put it on your sdcard, use Root Explorer to copy it to system/app/ then run and install. That should do it! -=)
Not true. It actually turns itself on and off as needed. Mine is always "on" or at least enabled, but it's not running. It only turns on when I run an app that uses GPS.You should also keep GPS off, if you are not using it, then there is no reason to keep it on.
I'm liking GSB bigtime and have only one thing I need to get up and working on my Eris. I need a way to view Word and Excel attachments, sent over my work's Exchange email server. My old Sense rom (xtrSENSE) and the oem system had QuickOffice included. I'd really rather not pay to install it from the market, given I already had access to a working copy.

But before I jump through all these hoops, I wanted to check here. Does this make sense? Is there a better way?
And if there's a better forum in which to ask this, please point me there.
Thx.

Edit: I installed it myself to check if it worked and it force closes when I try to open it, maybe it is not compatible... let me know if it works for you!
@ ppl getting really good battery life 30+ hrs are there any tricks youd be willing to share?
If this is a paid app, doesn't what you just did count as piracy and violate terms of the XDADevelopers' forum? I suggest you remove the attachment.

if you just need to view documents, "documents to go" on the market should do this for free. in order to edit documents, you have to buy the full version for $14.99, but it is a really handy program.
edit: and i know since i am currently using it that it works on this rom
Yep it force closed on me too. I was afraid I'd done it wrong--I didn't know how to move it to /system/app... Root Explorer didn't appear to have a "copy" or "move" option I could find, but it asked if I wanted to install it right from its location in the /sdcard. So I tapped "install" and it appeared in the app drawer but force closed on me when I tried to run it. So perhaps it requires part of the SENSE framework, or is not updated to be able to run under gingerbread?
And with respect to rougegoat's question about it being a paid app, QuickOffice came preinstalled on the Eris I bought from Vzw, so I would assume that means I already bought the license to use it. I'm just asking if I can move the app I already paid for to a new ROM installation on the same phone. Seems legit to me.
Didn't QuickOffice come with the Eris?
Sent from my GSBv1.7-ERIS using XDA App
