I knew someone would try to educate me instead of actually providing any troubleshooting help.

I don't run benchmarks for fun. I'll be the first to remind people benchmarks aren't useful even for making comparisons two stock Evos, let alone two phones with dissimilar hardware or software. But I don't think it's wishful thinking to presume they can be useful when doing a before/after comparison to evaluate the effect of a single change on the same phone.

My phone became noticeably slower, I tried to measure it, I found a benchmark that showed CPU performance went from 1900 to 300 and I asked if anyone else could reproduce this. If you can provide a data point, great. If not, well, thank you for your "contribution".

Ok, that helps, thanks. Might be related to kernel? I always run Lionfish...

Busy weekend. Catching up... :)

The Stocks *app* FC's, never mind widget. [EDIT: grayn0de check PM for logcat]

Looking into this, now.

Can someone run a quadrant score on the very very latest version?

I nandroided back to a beta version (after RC2, before the 1.0.0 final final version with wallpaper fix) and performance seemed better.

I used to get 1000, and the CPU component of that score was 1900.

With the most recent release I get high 500's and the CPU component is 300.

Is it just my phone? I spent a couple hours wiping and flashing 8 or 10 different combinations of AlterROM versions, different Aroma configurations, etc.

The problem seems to always and only occur when flashing the very most recent version with the wallpaper fix.

Could be. I've reproduced it on mine (deodex w/ lionfish). I'll flash a different kernel and run another benchmark here in a bit.

I have just put this ROM on my phone and must say great job guys I'm lovin this rom seems to be decent on battery as well. My question is when I open the default mail app there's no option to use yahoo or hotmail. I know on the last rom those options are there. I tried to use the default mail app for yahoo but in order to use yahoo pop email services yahoo wants 19.99 per year for it. I'm not a fan of the yahoo email app and would really like to use the default mail app.

To my knowledge, the stock mail app has never had an option for Yahoo! or Hotmail. I could have missed it, though. I don't use those services and have not used the stock mail app in a couple months. Can you provide me an example of a ROM the has that functionality, please?

--------

Sidebar: I've been tweaking my personal configurations to see what I can do to maximize battery life and managed to pull 1 day 19 hrs on battery before charging (at 15%). Wanted to ask if there was anyone who has managed to go beyond this and how.

Ok good I'm not imagining things then. Thanks.

Pardon me for a bit - there's an AOSP ROM I've been wanting to check out. I'm sure this will be a brief investigation: AlterROM has been the simplest and cleanest experience of an intelligently optimized ROM I have ever encountered and I expect I will continue to rely on it as a daily driver for some time.

Hey grayn0de thanks for getting back to me on this and hope you had a good weekend. Here is the link to the rom that I had on my phone.

It would be awesome if you could implement yahoo into the default mail app.

Ah. Synergy is Sense 2.1, which has a lot of things that Sense 1.0 lacks (MMS settings, Contact groups, etc.). As far as I know, you can't use Sense 2.1 apps with Sense 1.0 without a lot of hacking around with the system. I've had requests to implement functionality found in Sense 2.1, but I've not yet had a chance to look into what would be required to get it to work. It's on my list of things to look into.

So if I find the right sense 1.0 mail.apk then I should be able to use it?

Theoretically, yes. If such a thing exists. I honestly believe that it is one of those Sense 2.1+ user experience enhancements, though.

That being said, if you do try a different mail.apk, make sure to backup the current mail.apk (and odex, if applicable) and wipe cache and dalvik from recovery. Also, point me to the it, if you do find one that works and i'll implement it into the ROM.

I'll look into this, myself, after I finish up my current project for 1.0.1.

ALL: I've updated post #2 to include any quick fixes (like the Stocks fix) that I post in the thread, between version/fix releases. I'll try to keep this as up to date as possible, so you don't have to hunt through the thread to find them.

Nicely done ROM. Is there a way a user can adjust the transparency of the settings screen? I realize many prefer it as it is, but for me some of the smaller font is a little difficult to read depending on the wallpaper I have set. Would like to darken it just a bit if it's possible.

Not really or at least not easily. One could use NinjaMorph or apktool to change the transparency level in /res/values/colors.xml if they know how...

..or simply flash one of the following, which will increase the opacity levels by about 20% (to half-transparent):

50% Black Settings (Deodex)
50% Black Settings (Odex) <-- *Note: I've not tested this one, since I'm currently running deodex, but it should work.

;)

i cant wait to try this out... but 268mb and it's senseless..?? j/w

Correct. This is because I use AROMA and have loaded the installer with options. Not all of the 268MB gets installed, only what you select. Most of the size increase comes from the fact that I have Odex and Deodex versions of system app/ and framework/, as well as multiple SystemUI (QS & EQS).

---------

EDIT: Just a heads up, everyone, but I'm going to be removing the Odex option from the installer in version 1.0.1, for various performance and compatibility issues. I'll be adding a method to odex the ROM post-installation, through a script that will run from the device.

This will accomplish a few things:
- Fix performance issues with current odex setup
- Allow greater compatibility for mods/themes
- Cut down on update size
- Reduce base ROM complexity

Ok so here is what I found is these are the four sense 1.0 roms on this board how ever when I try to install it says application not installed. I also tried unzipping your package and replacing the mail.apk under the opt rezipping and updating that way but it still fails. Below are the roms that are sense 1.0. Can you please tell me how I can test each mail.apk out. Thanks

1) How are you trying to install? When I test, I always just push the files with adb. You cannot install system apps through Android.
2) When modifying the zip, how exactly does it fail?
3) Do you know if any of those ROMs have the option you are looking for? If they are all 4.67, then they might not.

Looks like I need to update the wiki, lol.

    RC2 Release

    Version 0.0.4 RC2 is up!

Check the OP. There are new installation instructions. Don't forget to take a look at the changelog if you are curious as to what changed.

I really wanted to include the 'Alter Setup' option that I've been working on (formerly described as 'Modify Install'), but even after a full rewrite of 800 lines of code it still does not want to function properly. I wanted to give you guys a release, since I know it is overdue and people have been waiting, so I've blocked the feature in RC2. For now, a Clean Install will do much the same as the Alter Setup, but you'll lose app data (but not the apps themselves, if choosing the Backup/Restore option), since it will format /system and /data.

Thank you all for being so patient on this one! As always, post bugs/requests/etc here and I'll handle everything as soon as I can.

The final release of 0.0.4 is coming next and, if I feel it is worthy, it will become version 1.0.0, proper. This one is going to take a lot of time, as there is a LOT left that I want to do and need to learn to have AlterROM to the point that I am willing to give it 1.0 release status.

    AlterScript
*Included in AlterROM Redux as of v1.0.1

AlterScript is a script created to maintain AlterROM. It is still a W.I.P. and some features (such as Odex) are experimental. Always make sure you have a good NANDroid backup before doing any system wide changes. Use at your own risk. YMMV.

For best results, it's recommended to run AlterScript through ADB, rather than directly on the device. Not sure why, but the Odex option will occasionally freeze the phone. Nothing is damaged, but it requires a battery pull (or adb reboot) to recover.

    Location on AlterROM: /sdcard/AlterROM/scripts/
Download Latest Version: Current in AlterROM Redux v1.0.1*

    Options:
    • Odex AlterROM (Experimental)
If you odex AlterROM, you'll need to immediately reboot to recovery and wipe cache and dalvik-cache. Script will reboot device upon completion. Also, you will need to reodex after every version or mod flash and possibly clean install some version.
    • Re-optimize Performance
This will re-optimize performance settings to AlterROM defaults. Nothing more, nothing less.
    • Cleanup AlterROM
      Coming soon...

    Version 1.0.1 Released

AlterROM Redux v1.0.1 has been released!
Please check the first 3 posts of this thread for details. Changelog in AROMA installer.

    THINGS TO NOTE
    • Odex has been completely pulled from default support and is no longer an option in AROMA. If you are currently running 1.0.0 odex, you will have to perform a clean install. I am sorry for the inconvenience here, but odex as I had it was causing a number of performance/stability issues. You do not have to perform any pre-wipes. The installer will not wipe sd-ext, so if you are partitioned for apps2sd, you should retain your apps. Always be sure to have a backup of anything you care about, though.
    • After flashing (Install or Upgrade), you will have a couple new folders in the AlterROM folder on your sdcard. 'morph' is a placeholder for future NinjaMorph mods. 'scripts' contains AlterScript, which is detailed in post #3.
    • AlterScript odex option will not always work on the device. Use
      Code:
      adb shell sh /sdcard/AlterROM/scripts/AlterScript
    • NinjaMorph mods and updates to AlterScript will be posted in posts #2 & #3. These are a W.I.P.

    The Future of AlterROM Redux
I just want everyone to be aware of the fact that I am transitioning from the OG Evo to the new Evo 4G LTE and will not have my OG for too much longer. I feel this ROM has reached a level of maturity that does not require me to make major changes to the system, so all that is left is maintenance and little tweaks here and there which can easily be done without needing the device in hand. I will continue to work on AlterROM Redux, but the changes will likely not be major ones. If there are any major changes to the system that require heavy beta testing, I'll call for more testers, but likely things will continue on as they do now.
