Htc One x + touchscreen problem

Hello,

I have a problem with my HTC ONE x+ 64 bit, I spilled (a month ago) a drop of water on the phone, and after that 1cm in half of the touchscreen is not responsive.

I`ve tested the unit with a new touchscreen only, to see if the problem is in my touchscreen, but the same issue. (I did not removed my LCD+assembly from the phone, I only removed the cable from digitizer and tested with a new htc one x assembly display and it is the same problem, on the half of the touch is not responsive, what are the odds to the new touchscreen to have the same problem in that spot :) )

Can be a problem of motherboard (a chip or something)?

Thank you very much.

Hi guys, I wanted to order new LCD with frame from etradesupply (Sharp version), but they only have B-Sotck version (I have been told by their representative, that it might have some cosmetic issues like scratches etc.). So I think about ordering those:

http://www.etradesupply.com/oem-htc-one-x-lcd-screen-and-digitizer-assembly-with-light-guide-sharp-version.html

http://www.etradesupply.com/htc-one-x-housing-cover.html

Do I need some extra adhesives for assembly? Like this http://www.etradesupply.com/htc-one-x-front-housing-adhesive-20975.html?

Because I have seen a picture of really expensive original part of screen (http://globalwirelesscodes.com/store/htc-parts/htc-one-x-lcd-with-digitizer-sharp-version-with-light/) and it has black adhesives all around.

Thanks for reply.

Separating outer glass from LCD/digitizer

after doing some extensive research I finally committed myself to try to separate the lcd and the broken glass
the result: I ripped the lcd's layers apart, just as the experienced service guy did here too at 26:53
youtu.be/H5TRf0REyMM

I believe it is not possible to separate the factory assembled (broken) digitizer glass from the LCD screen
the topmost layer of the LCD is glued so heavily to the glass, that even if you heat it very carefully the other layers will separate sooner (thus breaking the black tape holding together the lcd layers) then the lcd would separate from the glass

I was able to find only one video on YouTube which shows a successful separation of the lcd and the glass:
youtu.be/aknwDBR0IIA

but!
imho this is not a factory assembled unit or at least the sticker tape holding together the glass and the screen is different on my unit, it doesn't have anything like the white tapes seen at 6:52 on the glass

the only reason why you can buy separate touch digitizer glass at all, is to glue it together with a brand new lcd, but there is no way to recover your lcd from a phone, however unharmed it is

The outer glass can be separated from the LCD/digitizer however, it'll cost ya' to do it. There are special 'jigs' I've seen for sale on ebay that, IMO made it look quite effortless and fast. The device is held into place on the jig with lock down clamps, and a fine, heated wire is pulled between the two screens from end to end, which separates them much like a wire cheese cutter cuts cheese. A few of the auctions for these jigs that I looked at had a demonstration video, and it looked super fast and super easy to me. I will add that I 've never seen or done it myself in person so, believing nothing that I hear and only half of what I see, it may not be as easy as it looks. The drawback is though, they are fairly expensive, in terms of repair tools, so unless you're thinking of a screen repair business, its probably not justifiable to buy one to fix one screen, especially if it wasn't to just buy the complete LCD/digitizer assembly in the first place. I personally don't even waste my time or money trying to separate them. I'd estimate a 97% fail rate at all attempts that I've ever seen or heard of. I too have suffered the grimacing defeat of crushing an LCD thinking I could defy the odds. Trying to save a few bucks ended up costing three times as much. On the other hand, with one of these jigs, I'd give her a try again. Not only could you save some bucks on the screen cost initially and with future disaster repairs(not considering the cost of the jig of course), but money could be made repairing screens for others. I probably could have covered the cost of one by now just with the few screens I've repaired for friends of mine.

I'm not sure if I'm required to post links to back up my claims, but I'm not comfortable posting random auction links from ebay. I don't remember which auctions had the videos either. They're out there though and I know first hand that they are not hard to find searching on the internet. ;)

Well, its not AS easy as its shown in videos, but that's the whole point, OH WOW HEY THAT LOOKS SOO EASY, YEAH OK (CLICK) BUY NOW, remember, the point on iEbay is to sell item(s). Lots of videos out there show stuff like sliding spudger around edge and release the assembly from the housing effortlessly, cause there's no adhesive or it was already taken apart but slightly put back together for demonstrating that its "easy".
What started as a "I'm gona try fixing my phone myself" turned into an almost full time business once a few friends found out I fixed mine. Now I fix about 15 phones a week on average. But I do it at night after 10-11pm, when people stop coming over to bring their cars in for repairs (I fix cars for a living during the daytime), phone stops ringing, and more importantly so I can concentrate and focus on each phone cause I like being PERFECT when I fix somebody's phone. I never guess where screws go, I lay everything out as I take em apart. The feeling and satisfaction I get when I hand somebody their phone back that they thought was never gona work again, and seeing the screen glow in their face and the smiles when they see the pictures of their newborn that they thought wer gone forever, that's payment enough for me.
The molds, yeah those are specific to only 1 screen and is costly for just one repair. Best bet is to get the whole assembly.
Since I started fixing phones, I literally have had sooo many that they just never came back and got it so I guess u can say free phones. My #1 phone repair, is the iphone. I couldn't thank apple enough, I make sooo much extra $ repairing those things, I have like 18-20 iphones just scatered around my desk all with just one or two things wrong. Charging port or cracked screen, simple and cheap fixes too.

Now I'm soo broke I can't even pay attention!

So I've been asked to repair a One X with shattered digitizer. So far I've gathered that its by far easier to just replace the LCD at the same time, and I've found that there are 3 different LCD manufacturers, Sony, Sharp and AUO. Question is, is there any way to tell which is used in the phone without opening it up? I sold my old phone to a friend and she's about 1.5 hours' drive away, so just popping over to take a look isn't a simple matter. :(

Seems that the kernel no longer has /proc/last_kmsg, any other way to tell which LCD is used? :(

OK, I got the panel ID. Now stuck again. I see on the thread listing the types, they have:

Sharp 0x294000f
Acer 0x4940014
Sony 0x18103

Mine says 'panel_id=0x944701'., and I haven't been able to determine anything useful about this ID. Now I'm not sure which LCD I need to order, the listed options are Sony, Sharp and AUO, here: http://www.etradesupply.com/htc/android-models/htc-one-x.html?parts=214

Since there aren't many vendors making 1080P panels I'll bet all One's use the same panel type and it's probably from Renasis (Sharp) like the XZ and DNA.

The AUO (Acer) display on the Teg3 One X is "0x4940014"
The Sharp display on the Teg3 One X is "0x294000f"
The Sony display on the One XL is"0x18103" (The One XL only uses the Sony panel)
The AUO (Acer) display on the One X+ is 0x944a03 (The One X+ only uses the AUO panel)
The DNA uses a Renasis (Sharp) panel (only) but I can't find the ID

That's the only downside - having to pull phone apart to check which one you have. Also another tip, phone need to be on to change LCD's, boot phone up with it apart, then wake up with power button on old screen, then sleep with power button, change screens then wake up again. There are plenty of vids on youtube to help, if new screen doesn't activate, check flex cable is in square and all the way - have had this problem before also.

Thanks. I have seen all that information. My main concern stems from the fact that my panel_id does not match any of the 3 mentioned, as quoted in my previous post. Unfortuantely none of your links actually answer the question.

The AUO (Acer) display on the One X+ is 0x944a03 (The One X+ only uses the AUO panel)

This is categorically incorrect, I have a One X/Tegra 3/endeavoru and it has a panel_id of 0x944a03.

Not sure how your errors in repair constitute this as a "sh!t" phone ? There is a reset procedure that does not require a screen, rather just that it powers up and you can see the bottom 3 LED's from the home, back etc... buttons light up to know it worked. Its been too long ago for me to remember but look it up. Its just a button sequence and when you do it right those lights flash a bunch and then its done.

I did that. Hold power en volume up. And phone turned off and back on and vibrates qnd the leds flash but still no screen did that 3 times....
I mean sh.t phone cause its not easy to repair. It wqs a nice phone until u break it then its dead for ever... I mean i have the right display... And still no lcd... And i really don't have any clue how to replace the 220 chip.

RepairsUniverse compiled a written repair guide to repair a damaged screen or other internal components on your HTC One X. This detailed take apart guide will walk you through each step on how to disassemble and replace the damaged parts on your One X.

This guide will help you to install the following HTC One X part(s):
    • HTC One X Touch Screen Digitizer Replacement
    • HTC One X LCD Screen Replacement

    Tools Required:
    • Safe Open Pry Tool
    • Small Phillips Screwdriver
    • Adhesive Strips (for touch screen repair)
    • Hot Air Gun / Hair Dryer

    HTC One X Repair Guide:
    • First, use a safe open pry tool to begin releasing the back housing. Start at the bottom of the device and work your way around the edges, applying pressure to pop the case off. With all 3 sides released you can pull the device from the back cover. Be cautious as the battery is often adhered to the housing and will need to be removed with the rest of the device.
    • Once the back cover had been removed, we can now remove the small plastic housing located near the camera. Used Small Phillips screwdriver then remove the five (5) screws shown in red on figure 1.

    htc-one-x-1a.jpg

    Figure 1

    • There will be one (1) more small Phillips screws that will be located at the bottom of the motherboard, near the battery, that will need to be removed.
    • Start releasing all the connections located on the motherboard. Release the single pop connector and jaw connector located on the top of the motherboard (shown in orange in figure 1).
    • Release the power button flex cable and volume button flex cable from the housing. These will be lightly adhered to the housing (shown in green in figure 1).
    • You can now lightly lift the motherboard up, being careful as it is still attached with flex cables. The battery can also be swung out, revealing two (2) more connection on the skinny part of the motherboard. Release these two connections and remove the motherboard and battery from the device (shown in figure 2).

    htc-one-x-2a.jpg

    Figure 2

    • Use a heat gun or hair dryer to start warming the front of the screen assembly. Work around the outside edges of the screen on medium heat for about 45 seconds. This will soften the adhesive holding the screen assembly to the housing.
    • Once the screen is properly heated you can use a safe open pry tool to being lifting the screen assembly away from the housing. Be sure to lift both screens out at the same time.
    • After the screens are partially released, be sure the flex cables are fed through the housing. Remove the screen assembly.
    • Use the heat gun or hair dryer again to warm the seal between the touch screen and LCD screen. Use quick movements for about 30 seconds. Once this is complete, use a safe open pry tool to carefully separate the screens.
    • You can now replace the touch screen digitizer or LCD screen.

Reverse the instructions above to reassemble your phone.

Thanks for the information. Very curious to know if this is really a original screen, if so I can order one for a friend of mine, who has a One X with a broken screen. Hopefully you can take some pictures once you installed it, I am especially interesed in the viewing angles of this screen.

Right screen fitted, it IS an original, fitted it, spot on!! Will put photos on when I can :good:

    Viewing Angle Perfect!!

Well, at first thank you repair universe for your guide! It was useful for me!
I repaired successfully my HTC One X and now it's great!

I'd like to share my experiences with you guys hoping that they'll be useful for you.
Replacing the screen ain't an easy thing as you can easily understand but if you are very patient and good at this kind of things, and you are going to follow this guide, you can try.
The most hard part was to find a good seller who can deliver you an Original HTC OEM product!
Infact, most of the seller will send you a chinese crap item that will break in 4/5 month of usage and it's far from being an authentical Gorilla Glass Screen! I went over 4 refunds before getting a genuine one.
The reliable seller that I found is express-homeshop, and you can visit it through the links that I've posted before; I believe that there are also some other shops where you can find authentical original screens..
However if you need to know the difference between a crap and an original one, the method to find out if your screen is original is :

1)the screen must be as dark as the original cracked one if it's off!!
2)you have to put a finger on the glass and another on the LCD panel and press. If it doesn't appear anything on the screen then it's original, otherwise you will get a "reverse bubble" effect which will turn on damaging the touch panel (crappy chinese products).
3)The original units have three backlights conductive paths made in plastic, located between the glass and the lcd panel, that will redirect your backlights to the right place (otherwise they'll be shifted of about 0,5cm from the capacitive button place)
4)The HTC logo on the top of the glass must be as tall as your cracked original screen (chinese's one is taller)
5)The crappy unit is slightly thicker than the original and as soon as you reassembly the phone you will do notice that!! the screen will be higher than the plastic and it will cause a different feel of the phone and an increased probability to break your screen.

with this method you should distinguish a good assembly from a crappy one! They are very different as you can notice!

I strongly suggest you to take an original piece (even if it costs a little bit more 90€ against 160€) because the difference is very very noticeable (I had both original and crappy).

Don't believe to sellers who tell you that "it's original" without sending you photos of the real product. You need the photos and my method to be sure to purchase an original unit.
And be sure that they will offer you a refund in case anything goes wrong!
In fact, most of the sellers don't even know that their product is not original!

I hope that this will be helpful for you unlucky people with broken screen like I was before! :)

Now I leave you some photos of my new amazing original screen next to my old cracked one! :)

    Regards!
    2
Yes this is possible. These screens are not fused together but held by adhesive. You will need to apply heat on the front touchscreen too loosen the adhesive. Good luck with the repair.
    2
The screen for the international and AT&T version are the same except for the fact that they have a different logo in the front as far as I know...
However I successfully repaired my phone by myself...
The piece I bought was original HTC!
Now my phone is repaired and I M very happy with it...
Ps if you need any photo of my repaired phone just ask...

Glad to hear your repair went well!
