Default [Q] Defective charging port

Hello everyone. So I finally got my HTC Flyer and...the charging port is defective. I am beyond angry right now. I bought this off of eBay and currently am in the process of sending this unit back to the seller. (Well I messaged the seller about it). The bad thing is...I live outside of the US and paid extra to have this forwarded to me. Therefore I have to pay to forward this back to the US (this is where it's really pricey). :/ I am soo bombed right now. I do not want to try to fix this by buying the replacement part because that's expensive and I shouldn't have to do so since I now got this tablet. When I got the device (today) I noticed that the bottom of the device looked as though someone (previous owner) tried to open it. I ignored it though as everything else looked fine. Now I realized why it was like that.

Anyway, sorry for the rant. I am writing to find out if all HTC Flyers eventually have this problem. I do not want to get another one to find out the same problem exists. *sigh* I am so saddened by this because even if I do get an exchange, I am losing out with the shipping costs (fee to send device back to the US and then other device back to me) and my money is already low. Any advice on dealing with the situation would be appreciated.

Happened to my View. Probably the charging port connector chip got pushed back. If you are willing to open it (which is pretty simple 4 torx screws) all you have to do is pop the charge port chip back in. Test it. If its good put it together.

I called HTC. They said it would cost me about $290 or something. I can't remember exactly but but it was expensive (more than I even paid for the thing so that made no sense at all). They said that piece was attached to the motherboard so that's why it was that costly. I don't think that's even true since i saw the part selling for like $35. The eBay seller has a 30 day warranty so I'm going to use that to get my money back.

With my time with the Flyer, I really liked it a lot! the device feels strong and its really responsive. I want to get another one but I'm afraid the pins break on the other one too. I can't keep losing money on these shipping costs. Tbh, I'm surprised these devices would have such a flaw since they were at one point more costly than an iPad. I figured HTC was better than that.

@j510. The last pin of the charging port completely broke so that option is out. Its like 60% charged and I'm resisting using it because I can't charge it after it's dead. I love this thing ao much though. I want to explore it but I can't.

To anyone, is this a common fault of the device? It seems as though it is (from reading past forums). If it is, I may have to pass on this type of device which truly is sad since I bought it particularly for the pen functionality which few tablets have.

I have a flyer and it's about a year old, got it at Best Buy. I have never had a problem with the charging port. Maybe someone put it in backwards when trying to charge the tab.

Have you tried a regular charger upside down? Just checking since its new to you. Micro usb works as well.

I tried the same USB cable that works with my Samsung phone. It did work (but I had to wiggle it a lot to get any charge). However, that was when the bent pin was there. It completely broke off so I am sure it's not the cable that's preventing the Flyer to charge. The seller is offering a full refund. I am only mad because of the shipping costs I have to pay and the time required to return the item.

Yeah that sux my daughter broke her HTC EVO design charging port by using a Samsung charger it went in to far and separated from board, but sprint replaced it free through HTC one year hardware warranty.
