I can't get ad-hoc wifi to work though. I'm hosting the ad-hoc WiFi on a Windows 7 machine (I've tried 2 different machines with different WiFi adapters).

With the standard R12.5 Flexreaper ROM I can't even see the connection but flashing the "extra ad-hoc patch" fixes this. So I can see the ad-hoc connection but when I try to connect to it, the status just alternates between "authenticating" and "obtaining an IP address...". If I try setting up an "open" connection (no WEP or WPA) the tablet just sits on "obtaining an IP address...".

I've tried re-flashing the ROM and made sure that I've followed the instructions (formated /data/ etc.)

Can anyone suggest what I might be doing wrong?

Ad-hoc always works here ,"authenticating" problems for me is when I used wrong password to connect to my network and phone.

Hi! I've found the solution by my self- it's needed to change the file "pointer_arrow.png" in "framework-res.apk". I think, this mod should be included in all custom rom's for tablets with HC and ICS.

Amen 2 that!!!! - Acer probly leaked the earlier version just to see wot civ could wring out of it:D
tbh I've been readying my tab for a few weeks now, in anticipation of the ota, but after being on 'the reaper' since r10, and the way civ knocks out the updates, I'm one happy camper... acers gonna have a hard job coming out with any thing better:p

For the last couple of hours system update has been telling me ' network coverage is poor, pleease move to another location ' ffs now Acer telling me i don't live in the right part of town....wots with that?????
They can keep their half baked ota...lol

I gave up on Password on this and some other versions and ended up using the WPS and hitting the button on my router to connect to the internet. Even correct password came back with Authenticating Problems. I even had the visual password on just to see if I was entering the password correctly. Still a no go... But it works now the one way. Other machine in house work fine with password. Not sure why. But it works...

Ok , good it worked for you .
I only use ad-hoc to connect to my phone.


Some side info for all:

I updated my tablet with V3 ICS unlocked bootloader because now ICS is really released by acer so every user , stock or custom rom user will have ICS running in a short time.
I gotta say it runs smoother and no messed up boot.img .
One downside , you won't be able to go back to HC rom.
And the auto script in R12.5 does not install the ICS boot.img correctly (command to flash correct boot.img is not correct for V3 , I solved that so in feature releases that will be correct), in the mean time you need to flash the ICS kernel yourself , you pick the kernel in kernel section. You flash it right after installation of the rom.

Yes you will lose all and even your data .
I upgraded to ICS bootloader because Acer officialy released ICS.
I find it more stable and better running.

If you want to go to ICS bootloader you need to flash the ICS stock leak rom first (I did it different only flashed bootloader.blob and then into APX mode) and then follow these steps , it took me +-30 min to make it all happen.

But before you do make sure you got your CPUID !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and follow those instructions to the letter.

There are tools to root ICS. But you still need to use nvflash and APX mode to install unlocked bootloader and custom recovery.
The normal recovery 's are not made to work with ICS.
So if you update with OTA from Acer you will lose custom recovery and even if you root it you need to install a recovery that works on ICS bootloader.
All you need is found a few posts above.
Remember flexreaper R12.5 is the same as the official Acer release.
But custom features and with a boot.img that gives full root

I've never used nvflash and APX mode. :( I've only used TimmyDean's root tool to get from 3.2.1 to be fully rooted, and I used it to recover from the first ICS leak. I'm using R12.5 now. So I flash the latest leak from Vache (1.031.00_LEAK) root it then flash (nvflash-A500-ICSbootloader-V3-Custom-CWM-installation.zip), and lastly install/flash CWM/R12.5?

I am not seeing any reason for going to an official ics....No lag with this marvelous rom...two exprctations-dreams are a really quick gps fix(like phones) and tv drivers for using usb as a usbtvtuner...

I'm going to say it again , the release Acer did is exactly the same as the rom that flexreaper is based on. 1.031.00 .

So don't expect a update soon.
Only thing I can say is update your boot loader to the V3 unlocked ICS bootloader in the dev section , if you don't ever want to go back to HC rom.
I did and all the screen glitches and strange boot screens are gone.
But again do that at your own risk.

See again confirmation that the Acer release is the same as flexreaper base rom

Yes , that is about it. If you follow the instructions to the letter there is no problem.
You don't need to root it , just flash the leak from from vache but before you flash that from open it with winrar or 7 zip ( dont unpack it just open it) and delete the recovery folder that you see in it and then you flash the rom .( that way recovery is never going to be a problem)
Then you start the installation of the V3 patched bootloader and custom recovery.
Root is given when you install my flex reaper rom, make sure you flash the kernel for ICS boot loader users right after you installed the rom and then you boot.

I will release a rom that installs the correct boot.img , but for now R12.5 only recognizes ICS 0.3.11 boot loader and not the new V3 _ 0.3.12 bootloader. That is the reason why you need to flash the kernel for ICS boot loader users yourself , you find them in the kernel section.

Hope this clears things up for you.
But again make sure you got your cpuid.

I'm still running flexreaper 10.5 on my moms tablet with absolutely NOOO issues. Probably the smoothest, most crisp ics experience I've had. I'm just wondering if its worth updating. I don't use the tablet, I just rooted and romd it for fun. But flexreaper is so nice and stable I haven't bothered with any updates or anything. So should I avoid risk and just stay put, or is it worth looking into an upgrade?

Also, I noticed AOKP supports this device, anyone ever try it out, I haven't seen a thread on xda about it. Just curious

Sounds too complicated.... worst case is going back to stock recovery and hc 3.1 and doing ota ics update......

    BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING PLEASE BE SURE TO BE ON THE ICS UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER.
    HOW TO DO THIS UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER THING?

    For Aroma installer you need to be on one of the following custom recovery's
    ezterry's A500PubRecovery
    or
    TWRP 2.1.3 (not 2.2...)
    or
    Thor 1.7.3
    or
    ra-recovery 3.17 (recovery-ra-iconia-3.17-gnm)

    INSTALLATION
    -first take a full nandroid backup !
    -First time installing this rom = wipe all , factory reset , format and make sure to format flexrom!!!
    -flash rom first with cwm or RA recovery
    -Reboot and do your settings.
    -Now you can use the Aroma packages or mods

    If you got problems please before posting them do the following.

    Performe a REAL format....
    here's how to on cwm:

    go to in recovery enter "Backup and Restore" and click on "Toggle backup and restore of internal storage (/data/media)"
    should say enabled....
    then go into "Mounts and Storage" and "format /data"
    this will REALLY format data and you will loose all you have in the in the internal memory.

If you want to overclock go to the kernel section and flash a OC kernel

    As I already mentioned this is my goodbye to the active community.
    I will still jump in to read some stuff but active support or new rom releases is just not for me anymore.
    Life got other plans for me.

    I joined XDA as a noob and to be honest I still feel a noob compared to some of the supurb dev's here on XDA.
    I would like to say thanks to ezterry , thor2002ro , vache , spica1234 , Stefan Gündhör , Skrilax_CZ , blackthund3r , Euclid's Brother , smaury , Moscow Desire and many more.............
    In some way each of you helped me doing my thing.
    I probably made some people mad but no hard feelings from my part.
