Updated with rj10 kernel

Refreshed the ROM with latest r10 kernel from rumirand. Should have better battery life than previous version. Download links are in the 1st post.

Hey OP,
Just wondering some things :

1- Does it work with YP-GB70 ? It's the korean version. The device has HDMI and supports 1080p. It has physical home button. I got a 16gb version, but I know you can find GB-70 with 32gb.

2- Does your rom have TouchWizz? I want a custom ROM only to get rid of TouchWizz bluetooth control and use my wiimotes on my Galaxy Player.

Thanks!

Nobody tried this on Korean YP-GB70. From previous experience in this forum, whenever we tried flashing a ROM to another device of different region, it fails badly. I doubt that it will work.

Getting rid of Touchwiz is easy but not so sure what you mean by wiimotes though.

Thanks for the answer.
About wiimotes, it's quite easy : you can't use wiimotes on a TouchWizz device (same problem with some HTC Sense devices).
You can find more informations here http://xdaforums.com/archive/index.php/t-1229445.html or in any thread about samsung/htc and wiimotes on android.

Looks like I misunderstood what you mean by TouchWiz. I was thinking about the TouchWiz UI, but what you are referring to is the bluetooth stack used in the device. That will require people with bluetooth experience. Did anyone have success in fixing that in Galaxy S or Galaxy S2?

Will you continue to update this ROM or only your WT 0.2.0? Great if you can add CN locale to this ROM too and get your final wifi tweak flashable on this ROM.

I will only update this ROM occasionally when there are new kernels. What I have in mind for the 2 roms on this thread is that it should be as close to stock as possible but with root and CWM. This is an alternative for people who have difficulties in getting root on their device. They just need to flash this and get root plus CWM in one shot.

As for WT 0.2.0, it will continue to evolve as I put in tweaks here and there. I should revise the description of these 2 threads in my next update.

Have you tried using it outdoor? It is almost impossible for any GPS to work indoor. To get better performance, you can use apps like "GPS Status" to download latest satellite info for better lock.

Another possible reason is the default configuration in /etc/gps.conf is not very good for your location. The one in this ROM is stock. The gps.conf in my WT.0.2.0 has some tweaks in it, which may give better result (really depends on your location). Different ROMs usually have different config. You may try various one and pick the best one for your location. You can search it on xda, and you will find many variations of gps.conf .

Finally gps suddenly fixed! Don't know why (after reboot XX times). But it is now taking longer to fix every time (a few min and lose signal occasionally even after fix). Definitely longer than XEKP2 stock rom (< 1min).
I am not in a concrete apartment (in NZ). Indoor is ok.
I happened to see the follwing post to improve GPS fix on our device (BTW I've tried PFGPS 2.0, not working)
http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=1304259#19261463
I wonder if it is what your tweak on GPS? Wondering NTP server need data connection? Can it remember your position so that you still get quick fix even you don't have wifi outside?
How quick is GPS fixed when using your 0.2.0 rom? Appreciate if you can make a CWM flashable tweak for easy install.

I can get a gps lock in < 1 min outdoor when using WT-0.2.0. It used to be very bad when using stock ROM.

The ntp server is just for updating the clock of your device. I have included several ntp server in the list covering different continents but the first one on the list is pointed to a Europe server. However, it shouldn't matter when you are not on wifi.

When I have time, I can repack some of the gps.conf I found as flashable zip. I believe there is no perfect configuration for everyone. If the one in your previous rom is better, it is possible to use that config as well.

Since those guys talking about lock in a few sec which is really envied to us. Could you explain a bit to me how the tweak works? Is the Xtra server which direct gps find satellite faster? Can I change first server pointed to NZ? My previous rom (XEKP2) is not rooted, so I haven't got a chance to look at its conf. Not worth to go back anyway coz the lock time is not that super. If I can fully understand, I may try to modify a conf for Australasia. Appreciate your help.
BTW. The fix time seems to get huge improvement now (< 1min). Does it have learning function? Interesting!

Here is what in the gps.conf
NTP_SERVER=north-america.pool.ntp.org
XTRA_SERVER_1=http://xtra1.gpsonextra.net/xtra.bin
XTRA_SERVER_2=http://xtra2.gpsonextra.net/xtra.bin
XTRA_SERVER_3=http://xtra3.gpsonextra.net/xtra.bin
SUPL_HOST=supl.google.com
SUPL_PORT=7276

Compare to the following code suggested in the forum, wondering what's those mean and what best settings for NZ :confused:
#Test NTP_SERVER=xtra1.gpsonextra.net
#Asia
# NTP_SERVER=asia.pool.ntp.org
#Europe
# NTP_SERVER=europe.pool.ntp.org

Lagfix

All up running well now. Wondering to enable ghetto lagfix on this rom, do I need to wipe data/cache factory reset, or it's ok to go ahead with nandroid backup / restore? What to edit in nandroid.md5 to match .ext4.tar files?
And how to uninstall and reinstall Gmap and Market (if FC happens)?
Sorry for so many newbie questions at a time ;)

Edit: Oops, seem that not enough space left in this rom (need>12MB). Does ext4 format reduce the avail size compare to rfs? Should I use Format-ext4 in another thread of yours to format and then reflash this rom using Odin, or is it possible to enable lagfix in your next version pls? How much free spaces for freshly flashed rom?

I only know a bit. Those NTP servers at the beginning are for getting accurate time for your device. If the clock on your device is off, it will affect the accuracy of your GPS location. You should use one that is close to your physical location. If this the NTP is too far away, the timing you got may have some error due to network delay. Not sure how big the impact though.

Those XTRA_SERVERs are servers used for assisted GPS. I think it is a service provided by Qualcomm. Almost all the gps.conf have them.

DEBUG LEVEL should be set to zero for day to day usage. Unless you are a developer who want to get debugging info. Not sure where do all the debugging information goes. May be somewhere under /proc?

For INTERMEDIATE_POS, most people turns it off but not sure how it is used.

If you want lagfix, you should use my other ROM. As you already experienced, if you lagfix a stock ROM, you may not have sufficient space to put everything back in because of extra overhead of ext4. If you really want to do that, you need to remove some system apps to free up sufficient space.

Is there any reason you want this stock ROM vs the WT ROM in the other thread? The stock ROM in this thread is more for a simple base for people to do all the modding they want. So, I don't plan to add any non-stock features except the kernel and root.

But for the WT ROM, I will add whenever I see fits (or I actually use ;)).

Wondering how you manage all apps in. Did you remove anything? All apps in stock rom I need to use and would like better battery life.

    These are custom ROMs for International Galaxy Player 5.0 with minimum modifications. What you get is essentially a stock gingerbread ROM, rooted plus the custom kernel (including CWM) from rumirand.

    News and Status
    [04/19/2012]Added a rooted XXKPH ROM.
    [01/27/2012]Updated to include rj's r10 kernel. (better battery life :D)

    G70XXKPH-rooted-rj14
    • Based on G70XXKPH stock ROM (Thanks tapioco2000 for providing the stock ROM)
    • Rooted

    Previous Versions
    G70XXKP8-rooted-rj8 (alternative download link, thanks to Rueben_)
    G70ZSKP8-rooted-rj8

    How to flash?
    1. Full wipe
    2. Flash using Odin (if you are not sure how to use Odin, do some research about this first)
    3. Restart and you are good to go

    Will it work on my Galaxy Player?

    • Galaxy Player 5.0 International (with a physical home button) WORK
    • Galaxy Player 5.0 US (without physical home button) DO NOT WORK
    • Galaxy Player 3.6, 4.0 (US or International) DO NOT WORK

    Acknowledgement
    Actually I did very little to create this ROM. All credits should go to rumirand and Entropy512 who make the custom kernel and CWM possible. If I miss anyone, just let me know.

    Disclaimer
    I am not an experienced Android developer and this is my first ROM ever, so don't expect much from me if you run into problems. And I am not responsible for any damage done to your device.

    Our first rom for this device? Brilliant thanks, do you plan on doing tweaks in the future to the ROM e.g. making it faster etc. I will try this now and post feed back later :)

    Hers the multi upload link for more choice on were to download.

    EDIT: ROM does not boot up stuck on the Samsung splash screen. :(

    Have you wipe the cache partition and do a factory reset? If there is old user setting in data partition, it can cause unexpected behavior.

    I can do some small tweaks if it doesn't need to go too deep into the system, no guarantee though. Many new features will come from rumirand's kernel actually. e.g. lag-fix should come fairly soon.

    Does this have Vietnamese? If you know, where do I find ROM with Vietnamese?

    There is no Vietnamese in these 2 ROM. May be you can have a look at the ones that based on 2.3.6. They seems to have more languages but not sure if Vietnamese is included.

    Have a look at these 2
