Hey all,
I have a Droid Maxx and am interested in rooting it. I also have an old HTC g2 (Prior phone). I'm wondering if it might be worth while trying to root the G2 first just to become familiar with the tools and the rooting and installing different kernels and such prior to attempting on the Maxx. Is there any real value in playing around with the G2 first?
ED: Version info on the HTC G2:
Android Version 2.3.4
Baseband Version: 12.62.60.27u_26.13.04.19_M
Kernal Version: 2.6.35.10-g96de068 htc-kernal@and18-2 #1

I have read the writeups on Rooting the Droid Maxx. I believe the latest is this from the Root/Write Protection Bypass] Droid Ultra/Maxx/Mini thread:

Friend..if you have the Droid Maxx..you need to use RockMyMoto..

Here is instructions >> https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B67R...p=docslist_api

Here is a zip that will set your computer up to run the exploit >> https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B67R...p=docslist_api

While it never hurts to play with different devices and can get you familiarity with the some of the generic tools like adb, and some of the terminology, the methods used for different manufacturers is different so the actual exploit tools and steps will be very different.

If you have a Droid, and are still on 4.2 read the slapmymoto thread very carefully and follow those for the Maxx. They wont work for the G2 nor will G2 methods work on the Droid.
