I want to upgrade from 2.7 to 2.8 and to keep it easy I was planning to simply wipe cache/dalvik then flash the base and essentials. Do I also have to flash the 2.8 add-on? Does this method have a reasonable chance of working or should I do full wipe first?

Full wipe not needed. A simple wipe cache/dalvik cache and install (Flash Base + Essentials)

Flashing the 2.8 add-on is up to you, not needed.

Thanks... I guess what I found confusing was that there is a new add-on. I have the 2.6 add-on installed so if I switch to 2.8 base and essentials, would I be missing something or would something not work if I did not flash the new add-on?

if you don't fllash 2.6 addon after 2.8 base + essentials, you will be fine, if you need to flash a removed apps addon after essentials, use 2.8 addon.

Getting a lot of apps in market saying not able to install on your phone in this country. What country does the market think my phone is in?

How to fix?

There are a lot of really good apps on sale right now. Such as Dead Space for $.49

Would like to take advantage.

Thanks!

Guess I will try Market-Unlocker...........

try market enabler and set it to US t-mobile. alternatively, try clearing market data and retry or set dpi to 240, reboot, clear market data and try.

Sorry for the basic questions, I only have limited flashing experience. I've got a used Captivate arriving today. The previous owner tells me that it is currently running "Stock_Plus_v1.2" and that to install it, he "booted into recovery, wiped and then just installed the zip".

So with that in mind, would it be correct to assume that the phone does not have CWM or anything else like that? And to install SlimICS, it would be as simple as booting into recovery, wiping, flashing base + essentials and rebooting? I have read the instructions and a few of your other threads, but still unsure. Any advice appreciated!

Stockplus v1.2 I believe DOES have CWM as it seems to have the KH3 kernel from boog. I am also planning to flash. per the instructions I think you have the order correct and I plan on following the same (different rom but still GB with CWM). Let me know how it goes and your thoughts on the ROM. Thanks and good luck

might have to flash my essentials first, reboot to recovery then flash base + essentials. If this didn't work, flash cm9, then mine

Cheers, I'll give it a go hopefully in a few hours once the phone arrives, and report back.

So boot into recovery, flash essentials, reboot again straight into recovery (without booting the OS), then flash base + essentials and reboot into the OS. If that doesn't work, follow the CM9 instructions, then flash your base + essentials once CM9 is installed? Sounds straight forward. Thanks, I'll report back in a few hours :)

samb0rg, def let me know how it goes. I plan to follow the same steps coming from a GB rom. Instructions seem straightforward enough. so, good luck.

Thanks, just changing DPI to 240 worked. Interesting the market looks at that to help determine what phone you have.

Wouldn't recognize I887 with 220 selected.

Okay. Instant problem. Rebooted into CWM recovery, attempted to flash the base, received:

assert failed: run_program("/tmp/updater.sh") == 0
E: Error in /sdcard/Slim_ICS_2.8.zip
(Status 7)
Installation Aborted.

Tried the essentials first, etc. No go. Should I now look for a CM9 rom and try that?

    4.1 Released:
    Note:
Overall change in how i am structuring Slim. No more Base + essentials + gapps. Device ROM + SLim Common ( which inclues slim gapps among other common non compiled stuff). Just flash Device ROM version THEN Slim Common ( includes Slim Gapps). you should be set.

3.9 Released. I will say this, read the changelog and FAQ, before posting questions. If you find ppl posting without reading, just direct them to them the changelog page, don't give them the answer, its a few lines not that hard.

You need to d/l and flash Base, Device essentials and Slim Gapps. From next time on you just need to d/l base and device essentials as long as you don't lose Slim Gapps or i don't change it. Happy Friday Everyone!

NOTE: Read the changelog below carefully and the FAQ before posting questions .

    All Devices:

    • Apollo ( CM9) music compiled from sources - thanks cm team
    • Updated germant translations for DeskClock - thanks Basian Mile
    • Reduce processing in WebCore thread while scrolling and zooming based on this
    • External Webkit changes based on this, this and this.
    • Hide storage option in camera for devices that don't have external storage based on this
    • Don't try to create an ad-hoc network when no wireless network is available based on this
    • SlimPapers.apk with a couple of wallpapers, nothing fancy. Will put it in OTA app for those who want to use it. - thanks jeffyca at rootz for slimlogo wallpaper
      trans.gif
    • CM9 Quiet Hours
    • New boot animation - thanks jeffyca at rootz
    • Basic gapps included in base is pulled and made a separate flashable zip, reason is two fold,
      • make google happy as they prefer this route and
      • they don't change often, so why bloat the base unnecessarily.
    • Whatever was in UpdateMe ( GenieWidget etc etc), Apps, Stays there,
    • Make sure to flash slim_gapps along with base and essentials to get working multi dpi playstore, gmail, talk, video chat, email and exchange. If you flash another gapps, you are on your own, don't complain apps are not compatible if you are not on slim gapps. This is the way moving forward, you can cry about if you want
