Element Root

I did mean clockworkmod.

Sent from my Sensation using XDA

I see you were able to root the Pantech element. The information at Root&CWM is very helpful. However, it is also very convoluted to me, as a newbie, trying to root my device. I have rooted an Android phone I have, and was able to load apps that was otherwise incompatible, and got rid of some of the blotware by the provider, so I am somewhat familiar with the process, but what was most helpful was a listed order of steps. Is there any way we can get a step by step process?

Im going to buy one if im not going to have ny sim issues...

I have a straight talk 45/mo unlimted card, that ive been able to swap back n forth from any at&t product WITHOUT changing apns....BUT,no data...I need to change apn settings for that..I hope this will let me.

Ive done all my research. And i am so buying this,as soon as my question is answered..
I have a skyrocket, and i just got my buddy a pantech burst on ebay for $130 and i could swear it was new.Anyways, the burst is sick, part of me is somewhat jealous, though im sticking with the rocket ;)

Even so,you should have a look and google "dogfight pantech burst and skyrocket"
That was the video that really convinced me pantech is no joke whatsoever.

Anyways, about the apns? Anyone? Is root needed? Would it be safe to buy and wait till the devs straighten it out? Or do they not show the pantechs much love? This is my first Tab...

Here is the guide and files:

I could not get it to work without adding
fastboot oem unlock
after the adb command.

I also second the request for the stock boot.img and recovery to be able to receive updates when they come. Thanks.

FYI, it's not listed in the specs, but I just tried it and it works: the Pantech Element is compatible with USB Host mode, i.e. USB on-the-go.

Tried both a mouse and an external flash drive, both worked fine.

Plugging in a full external hard-drive that draws a lot of power over USB didn't work so fine, causes a consistent reboot.

Is any chance to use it as regular phone by running some phone.apk from regular phone? And maybe you know if headphone PL3.5 socket has mic connection ?

Tried the headphone jack and can confirm that it supports my headphones with mic input fine using the mic.

No idea about how to get it running as a phone. I use GrooveIP and use it as a voip phone that way sometimes.

Just another heads-up, in case anyone is curious, 64GB microSDXC card works fine in my Pantech Element, so we're not limited to microSDHC.

Which adapter did you use ?
My Nokia CA-157 cable doesn't fit Pantech's micro USB connector - it has different shape.

I used the same one that I use with my Galaxy S II, some no name cable from eBay that said it was compatible with my Galaxy S II.

After rooting my camera no longer works. It Force Closes every time. Any ideas?

I'm assuming you've done the basics like reboot and clear data on camera?

I'm rooted, and just checked and have no problems with the camera. That said, this tablet needs regular reboots otherwise random apps start force-closing like crazy.

This is a great tablet.
and look like a good quality tablet and pretty fast too,
I wish there was more development.

As for rooting , is it really worth it specially now that there is almost no development on this device.

Yes , it's really good tablet. Let's hope ATT will provide ICS update soon.

HELP!!

Hey, I been messing with my Element, I love this thing but I was trying to hard to get a the ATT update on it, (guess I know now it is kinda useless) none the less I tried to 'unroot' to accomplish this by flashing the stock img on it now all I get is the ! android on startup and my pc will not recognize it in ADB, nor will it mount internal sd or external sd for updates. Any ideas on how to flash an img back on this thing so I can use it? two days w/o it and I am hurting here. Tried to reinstall my drivers for it but my control panel is giving me some errors. I will play some more but any direction/help/rescue is appreciated.

Thanks

I can't say I 100% understand what your situation is, but you can boot to recovery still?

When the device boots it goes to the screen with an Android symbol with a triangle on it and a big ! in the middle (I assume that is android error, or errordroid for short). When I push the volume up button it goes from there to the stock recovery which has limited options. It says it will restore factory defaults in there, I attempted that and it then asks if I am sure because that will delete all user data. No prob since its gone already. Long story short, none of the options get me past that screen.

I am attempting to reinstall all my pantech drivers on my pc to see if that will help me in accessing the device through ADB so I can reflash it to CWM. Would hate to have to contact Pantech tech support. This lil gadget has become a pretty important part of my business, oh and I am kinda attached to it.

Any Ideas? Does anybody know what drivers ADB uses to connect to the Element or a universal android? Two are listed on my device drivers when it is connected in recovery mode but one says it has an error code 10, device did not start. Or is there a way to manually get the device to go into bootloader mode w/o having to command it to from the PC?

All that Said, YES to stock recovery, But no go past it.

please tell me how to make root and add Cwm on the official firmware 4.0?

    dropbox (.com) /s/k8jiy71om1idxje/ICS_JB_Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v17.zip

download this i had to break the link up xda wont let me post links yet.

before you plug your tablet to PC go in settings developer options check USB debugging

now when your done that plug your tablet in your pc make sure you have the driver installed.

extract the zip file you downloaded

    run RunMe.bat select option 1

    on your tablet click restore.

the rest is just push any key and your tablet will be rooted

i am still trying to get CWM installed.

Works great! My data was not deleted. However, Root is gone, recovery became new stock, and fastboot doesn't seem to support the flash command anymore, so I couldn't root like before. fastboot oem lock is the only command that works. unlock doesn't. The new stock recovery also verifies the update (hardcoded to /sdcard/image/update.zip), so the usual Superuser zips signed with a test key doesn't work. Any other ideas?

CWM was overwritten with stock during the update, so can't nandroid back :D

At least I can now use Apex and Chrome

HDMI out on the Pantech Element

All I've done is rooted mine. I tried two different Elements on two TVs with the same cable.

My son's A100 works fine so the cable should be good. The element won't put out HDMI. I rooted it with just ADB commands to push su and chown, etc. Minimally invasive.

I reflashed the first tablet with the flasher so it was stock. I RMA'd it thinking bad HDMI port.

Same problem with the new one.

    Any ideas?

I know this post is very old but I was also having trouble getting HDMI out to work on the Element. It ended up having a simple solution: Plug the HDMI cable into the tv and tablet, then tap the power button on the Element to put it to sleep and tap again to turn it on. The Element screen is then mirrored to the TV.

I got the same problem after updating without losing my data. I did a factory restore erasing all my data and apps, and the clock problem went away. Seems some old settings are the one causing this and another issues. I really recommend to do a factory restore after upgrading.
