Ya, I known it because you said so, but why do you buy a 1.7Ghz phone to set max clock to 700Mhz lol, maybe get a galaxy young is a better choice :)).

When you are in a road and you can't charge your mobile, you can underclock it to 700Mhz.

when you want play 3D games overclock to 1.8Ghz.

Kitkat can run on very low spec devices smoothly.

1- clean install AOKP rom with williams kernel. ( I used Vanir gapps because it is so minimal: http://www.emccann.net/dho/5-Gapps/444Current-Minimalist-DHO-GAPPs.zip)

2- disable NFC.

3- stop battery drain by google play services(http://xdaforums.com/oneplus-one/general/guide-google-play-services-battery-t2832525)

4- set network to 2G only.

5- disable autorotate screen.

6- install Trickster app and set minimum cpu frequency to 281 Mhz and maximum cpu frequency to 700 Mhz and under volt cpu by 50mV.Set cpu governer to smartassV2 (Also GPU can be underclocked to 200Mhz)

7- Another trick is to decrease screen brightness by this script :http://xdaforums.com/showpost.php?p=54876322&postcount=622 ( I didn't use this one)

Note: AOKP with 700Mhz has no lag.

Doing all these things does help a lot. Only issue I am experiencing is that the OS is getting unstable at certain intervals when I under volt by 50mV. Currently under volted by 24mV to see if it's better.

Cheers for the post.

i'm looking into it. it was booting about 3-4 days ago (the build i am running on currently)
this one was build on the aokp buildbox. maybe some recent commits broke something, i'll get that fixed asap, and put up a new build soon.
