I fear there are a lot of people talking about different things with regard to remember position. It's kind of awkward setting as it's hard to explain.
Normally, Nova Launcher will reset to the top of the first page when you return to Nova by using the Home button, or you turn your screen off. This is how the stock Android launcher behaves and is designed so you generally don't notice the behavior. If you're browsing apps and using the back button you don't feel your place is lost. But if you turn the screen off, or are using the home button, you kind of forgot your place anyway and expect to have a consistent behavior when returning to the app drawer.
With the Remember Position setting Nova will not reset in those situations.
There was a bug where if you were already on the first page, but not scrolled to the top, it might not reset. I believe to have fixed that in 2.0.1beta2.
If you notice a behavior that is inconsistent to what is described above, please let me know the exact steps to reproduce it.
