If you have an Aux input in your car, I recommend this:

Works like a charm for me, it's got a 1A port where you can connect a USB cable to the charger and then to your phone; it won't charge as quickly as the standard 2.1A charger that comes with the Nexus, but it'll at least keep it from draining too quickly. When I've hooked up my phone to the charger while I was using Google Maps/GPS, it kept my battery steady without draining.

I've been using http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000S...00_QL40&qid=1404014983&sr=8-3#ref=mp_s_a_1_3 for a few years now and haven't had problems. I've bought them directly through amazon not through a third party for about $8. Right now it's just third parties that are selling it. It usually charges my nexus 5 in about an hour fifteen (from 0% with phone off)

Hm, that's surprising. The charger is listed as 950mAh, which would take 2.4 hours to charge the Nexus 5 from dead.

The Anker PowerIQ charger is another good option. It has an output up to 2.4A, and the maximum the Nexus 5 will draw is 1.6A. That gives you a charging time of 1.4 hours. It also has two ports and can charge two phones at the full rate at the same time.

I was surprised it took so little, last week I had my phone so low that it turned off. I plugged it in for half an hour, when I turned it back on it was at 43%.
