upgrading xperia x10 with latest rom

Hi all,

I am new to this forum and to android as well.My brother has a xperia x10.Now he want to upgrade its rom,how can I upgrade its rom to the latest. I checked on Sony's website they're saying that it can be upgraded to 2.3 gingerbread.So my question is how can I update this phone top gingerbread or with some custom rom available here .Lastly, how can I install play store on this phone . Please provide me the step by step installation procedure.

Plzz HELP!!!!
