Will it be possible to root it without overwriting the existing recovery? When I get mine, all I will want is root access on the stock build after I've run the HTC unlock. Otherwise you run into problems getting OTA updates as released.

I had a similar issue with my HTC One X, WSW but thankfully was able to get the original recovery to push back onto it after installing the SuperSU app with the custom recovery. Would rather not have to wait until there are updates out there before I can do the same thing with the M8!

You can probably try fastboot boot recovery.img

It didn't work on later hboot version on m7 but worked on earlier ones

Some old familiar Dev names popping up :)

So I assume once we HTC Unlock and we flash this, TWRP can do it's "Minimal" Root thing to start?

And we'll have a Stock Rooted ROM?

P.S. I'm on Sprint.

If you want the OTA's you just need to lock again. And you can usually use the same Unlock Key again so the 2nd time around is fairly quick.

EDIT: Oops I forgot.

Relock I think forces Factory Reset. At least that will be easier to deal with on this phone with the SD Card. Backup to SD. Lock. OTA. Re-Unlock and Restore.

So exciting Mike is picking up this phone! His is the only rom I ran on my M7!

Feels like a High School Reunion as we intersect with similar choices every few years :)

Found Memories of these two Dev's.

Whats up guys

I just ran through this entire process with my new AT&T variant and all seems good.
The only thing is that the phone is not showing as rooted.
Any ideas?
I flashed the .zip in recovery and everything said success.

Mike, put in post that this will not work for Verizon based phones. You will get MID not allowed.

Make it easier than the thread filling up.

    "Unlock bootloader at http://www.htcdev.com/bootloader"

HTC One m8 is not on the list...

    BTW
is it possible to root the phone without Unlock the bootloader ?
