I'm trying to figure out what caused the problem in the first place. As others mentioned also, the internals did not look dirty to me. Obviously they were. Is there anything I can do to help prevent it from getting dirty as quickly? Like apply some lubricate somewhere?

UPDATE: Sad to say that after a about two months, the keyboard got "dirty" again and I saw the same annoying issues. It was the last straw. I gave up on the x1 and am now a very happy owner of an xperia arc. Too bad because I loved the x1 but the whole selling point of it (to me) was having a keyboard... a WORKING one that I don't need to rip apart to clean every two months.
