Great software!
Automatic convert from other formats to png and auto-resizing would be amazing. Maybe you can implement this in the future with the usage of ImageMagick http://www.imagemagick.org/script/convert.php or a similar tool.

Someone in another forum suggested the following

Letting users bundle them into ZIP files with an XML/JSON/YAML manifest would be a big help to that end.

I think that being able to package up a tile for export/import use by others would be great.

I use Classic Shell in desktop mode. Is there a workaround to prevent displaying the obly tiles in the pinned programs list?
I looked for an option to hide the pinned programs in the Classic Shell settings, but I couldn't find one.

I changed the Virtualdub color (the grey was ugly), I did by myself the camtasia studio icon which I'm pretty proud of. I re-did the games icon, I like them better that way. I will probably do the Steam Icon in a more metro-ish way, like DayZ Commander, but I don't know yet, I kinda like to have one or two icons that doesn't "fit" there (like the Chrome or MPC icons).

I don't think this function is really necessary, we have image editors and many websites with lot of tiles ready to be used.

I would like to implement some sort of import/export and backup/restoration, but by now i focus on compatibility of the software.

Hey!

I forced Chrome to start in desktop mode by executing a .reg file with this in it:

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Chrome\.exe\shell\open\command]

And if Chrome is open, everytime I click the original tile, it just switches to Chrome on desktop, but if I click the OblyTile pointing to the chrome.exe, it opens a new window on desktop, just like if I would open the .lnk on my desktop.
I already tried to point OblyTile to the chrome .lnk in C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu, doesn't work either!

Is there anything you can do about this? I would like to switch to Chrome by clicking on the tile.

I did this tweak and I have the same "problem" with Chrome, it would be cool if it could just open a new tab instead of a new window...

Hi
Try this:

Program Path:
<Your chrome.exe file path>
(Default path is: C:\Users\<your user name>\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe)

Program Argument:
<website you want to show on the new tab>
(Example: www.google.com)

Everytime you click on this tile and Google Chrome is already running, it will open a new tab on chrome with the website you wrote on Program Argument.

Maybe there is an option for Chrome which forces it to stay as a single instance.
That would solve our problem. Well at least it's a workaround.

A small request if possible, would you be able to add a function to edit the tile that you create? I noticed that I made a typo and had to delete/recreate one. Just wondering!

@Argony-OT: Thank you so much for making this program! makes my windows 8 experience better!

I have another small request. Can you possibly add a feature where we can convert a shortcut/link into a tile? The interface right now is good for creating a few tiles but with many programs installed, it becomes VERY labor intensive. With a tile management feature (to change name/image) will make oblytile an essential utility for windows 8. Thanks!

I don't know if anybody in this thread already mentioned this, but I think I found a way to use this program with Windows RT. The problem I do have with Windows RT is that the Office-tiles (which I would like to have on my startscreen) look different than the other tiles (because Office is a desktop-application).

Because of that I created tiles for all the Office-applications on my PC with "OblyTile". Afterwards I copied the shortcuts ("%appdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs") and the OblyTile-folder ("C:\Program Files") on my Surface RT and pasted them into the folders with the same name. Afterwards I edited the "Launcher.vbs" with Notepad and changed all paths to "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office 15\program.exe".

It should work now but if I try to start the "Launcher.vbs" it says that the program wasn't found - despite the fact that the path is correct. Any ideas?

I'll put an experimental "Single Instance" function on the next update of OblyTile (thanks the user Dellle for the enhanced vbs script)

I'm working on a small Tile Manager for OblyTile (a real small thing) i will add the function to edit tiles, and a basic backup/restore function.

My knowledge about the ARM architecture is really poor, i can't help about this.
