Ok, so for whoever is interested, I sent the phone as is to a shop in the UK. They did refuse warranty repair as the phone has been rooted. However, not ready to give up and shell out an arm and a leg, I wrote an email to the CEO of Samsung UK explaining the situation. I got a response apologizing for the service and that they (Samsung) will repair the phone under warranty. I then spoke to the repair center and I was told that they were mistaken and thought I was talking about a Galaxy Note 2 which isn't covered if rooted, and when he realized we were talking about the Galaxy GT-I9300, it is in fact covered under warranty regardless of root state. So the phone will be fixed in 7-10 days then shipped back.
