New firmware, V21Y for G2X showing in LGMobile Support Tool

Hey all sorry to bump an old thread but I am stuck trying to upgrade my BB to the latest one.
I am following the instructions for the Automatic Offline Procedure to the T. Everything is Hunky Dory until I get to the Normal MTK upgrade start. I I then get a force close on 'LGUserCSTool LGMobile Application'. Under the problem details drop down, it says the Fault Module Name is Star_Model.dll. I searched this thread with hardly any luck, one user reported the same problem, found no answers and just went back to the old baseband. I did a broader search for star_model.dll and found a thread on the p990 forums which led no where. Any ideas??? I'm doing this on a win7 machine

Not sure what you mean? I am just trying to flash the v21y.kdz which I thought also flashed the stock rom?
They meant not to use any update for the P990 on the P999 phone because that will brick a P999 beyond resurrection. The offline update procedure (the one which uses it's own HTTP server) works if followed exactly. Make sure that all of the applications are set to run as administrator before running them. That's done by right-clicking on the application icon, clicking on properties, make sure that Unblock is clicked on it present, click on Compatibility, Run as administrator.
I did that except for the vbr script (no option) although I did run the command prompt as administrator. Also the UpTestEx_mod2_marwin.exe is running as administrator, also tried running it in xp sp3 compatibility mode. The windows enabler.exe is not running in administrator mode. Could that be the problem?
Try it, it won't hurt, then turn on Windows Enabler before running the vbr script.
Download the V21y.kdz again and try.

Is it normal that the method to update a wind phone keeps telling me that my phone isnt connected, yet when I cancel the error message down by signal icon in the bottom right corner, the update proceeds as normal?
Until I get to the update section and it proceeds to crash on me. Im on a windows 7 machine. Its frustrating.
(Also my internet connection is also through my phone, and I manually have to reboot it into the S/W mode. Then cancel the error message at the icon level in the bottom right corner, and it proceeds as normal till it freezes.)
Id really like this baseband.. im still on july 15 2011
EDIT: I just read that this isnt compatible with many roms... im running the hackfest and dont really want to run gingerbread... so am I **** out of luck for a new baseband? Thanks

THe hackfest is quite stable and runs great on my phone. I however would like a new baseband as that is the only thing I cant seem to update.
Do the .kdz update on a computer running Windows XP. The offline update works with Windows 7 or Windows XP. Instructions must be followed exactly. Drivers must be installed and every .exe program used in updating must be set up to run as administrator.
I have a backup of my current Wind phone with Android v2.2.2, BB Jun 5, 2011, Firmware LG-P999-AWC-V11h using CWM. Does CWM also back up the base band?
If I install this firmware and want to go back to V11h including Jun 5 BB, can I install CWM and restore from my backup? Or I have to reinstall V11h with KDZ?
How stable is this version? Is it using more battery? I am also considering flashing a JB custom rom. How is this compare to custom roms? Thanks.

CWM does not back up the baseband. To revert the baseband or install an update or reinstall the existing baseband, a .kdz "update" must be done. Unless you are going to take the phone in for service, I don't recommend sticking with Froyo/Android 2.2.2. The stock/OEM V21Y is very stable and so are the derivatives of it. V21E is also very good and so is Weapon and its derivatives which are based on V21E. JB is not ready for daily use if you want video hardware acceleration such as for taking video. Read the G2X threads to become educated/knowledgeable.
I am trying to restore my lgp999dw (wind optimus 2x) using the kdz method, both offline and direct kdz. I can't get past the 5% mark. get the error which everyone gets.
I tried windows 7, virtual xp, native xp, changing usb ports, disabling the modem from device manager, nothing seems to work. What can I do?
My phone is running CM 7.2 ROM, but the baseband is unknown because of which I have no mobile network.
Flash a stock rom with CWM and try again. I was getting the same problem trying to restore while running CM7
I tried flashing a nandroid backup for wind lgp999 but that got stuck on the lg logo.
where can I get the stock ROM to flash from recovery? there are no links for it in the sticky either.

Ok.. I am very confused right now... when I connect the phone to the LG installer..it detects my phone and it says that my version is V21Y but my phone says V21e in "about phone"... is this normal?
This may or may not fix it. Install GetRIl, the free one, from Google Play and check that the phone's RIL and baseband match. If they don't, use GetRIL to fix it.

I started up the LGMobile Support Tool and selected supported model. When I scrolled down, it shows new firmware, V21y, for the LGP999DW, LGP999DWDU, LGP999DWP but still shows V21e for the LGP999WA.

The V21Y_00 update (LG T-Mobile branded Android 2.3.4) is not available anymore through the LGMobile Support Tool and LG has removed the direct download link to the V21Y_00.kdz file. Instead, thanks to another member, overground, it is now available from http://www.mediafire.com/?obr7717n1ebj2qa
Get it while you can in case LG files a DMCA complaint against Mediafire.

IMPORTANT!
A lot of peeps have had trouble installing the V21Y_00.kdz file. There are many variables which can cause installation failure which are due to "operator error" and/or computer idiosyncracies. This thread and others have information about various methods used to overcome update problems so, if at first you don't succeed, read the thread(s) and keep trying.
As well, this update will install a new baseband and an LG and T-Mobile branded Android 2.3.4 ROM. LG has made some serious changes to the baseband which prevents other ROMs, except for a modded version of the same Android 2.3.4 ROM or the newest versions of CM7 and some other ROMs (which you can find by searching for compatibility with V21Y/March baseband), from working with in-call audio which is the audio for using the phone as a phone - to make and receive phone calls and for the people on each side of the connection to hear each other. So, if you want to install modded ROMs, other than the a modded version of the V21Y Android 2.3.4 ROM installed by this update or one such as CM7 which is compatible (Weapon isn't), don't update. If you do install it you can revert back to V21e by downloading it and using whatever method you used to successfully install the V21y update.
Before you update to V21Y, save a CWM backup of your existing ROM which you can use to revert back to the installation you now have after you reinstall V21E (including the V21E baseband). You can't use CWM to reinstall V21E, you must use the KDZ updater with the V21E kdz file then use CWM to restore your previously installed V21E modded ROM and Kernel. Good Luck!

INSTRUCTIONS
There's usually no need to revert your phone back to a stock ROM. If you use the following method, you can install any G2X/P999 .kdz update file (V10f, V21e, V21y, etc.) over almost any ROM, including modded ones. If you want to eliminate a potential update problem, revert to a stock ROM first. I successfully used Windows Virtual PC in XP Mode to install the .kdz file but you may be able to install it in Windows XP and Windows 7 (32 and 64 bit), as others have successfully done, by using LG_KDZ_FW-Update_OfflineFix as follows:

XP MODE Instructions
If you don't succeed with Windows 7 or Windows XP (which it should have), it may work with XP Mode in Virtual PC. The LG Modem drivers have to be installed in Windows 7 first then, after you get XP Mode operating, carry out the steps again. After you connect the phone to the computer, you will have to attach the phone's USB port in XP Mode from the XP Mode USB menu. During the update process, the phone's USB port will detach, you'll hear an alert sound, and you must reattach the USB port again from the XP Mode USB menu. That will happen a few times until the process completes. i dont like this update. bought the phone yesterday with it already on, didnt know about the call sound being f''ed up. until i got a call today. now i have to go back to the stock rooted rom in this forum...

This has already been CLEARLY covered many many times but I'll entertain you guys...
The new Baseband is perfectly fine. Really. There's NOTHING wrong with it.
What's WRONG is that it is NEW. Get it? NEW? .. That means developers haven't had time to implement compatibility for it into existing Roms.
Which means if you install CM7 or CM9 or even Tsugi or Weapon or ANY ROM THAT HAS NOT BEEN UPDATED TO USE THE NEW BASEBAND, then you are going to have problems. Simple. Clear. Covered lots of times.
Now, as far as a solution... there are instructions all over the forums which I won't link to since you can use search, to revert back to the July Baseband. Yes, that will even work on a brand new phone that come preloaded with the new Baseband.
