I'm on Galaxian Soup AOKP Milestone 5 from this thread, but am I reading these recent posts correctly that the official new AOKP for the 7300 eliminates the need for this ROM we are all currently using? Should we just be downloading from the AOKP site?

---------- Post added at 09:28 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:21 AM ----------

And why would an individual file like CANISMAJOR.ogg cause an error while replacing the zip folder?

yeah you can grab the official release from aokp. works well! (except my issue mentioned above)
team soup were just providing us with a rom whilst aokp didn't support our device!

m5.
i am running the 3g version although i currently don't have any sim card in the slot. im thinking that maybe this is leading to the problems....
did some more checking. tab goes into deep sleep when screen is off. no problems there.
however when active the cpu is nearly always at max (on interactive) even when it should be idling. no idea what is causing the cpu to go up.

Try with SIM card. I have had high battery usage on all my tablets when i use them without a SIM card in them (even with stock firmware). Airplane mode also doesn't help.

Please , going to install now, what the major differences between Both of them,

It'll be the same or better if from AOKP direct ?..Thanks

as far as i know they are the same. aokp has a newer version out (build 35) but milestone5 seems to be pretty stable!

updated to newest version with a complete wipe. so far i think the usage is better. might have been something gone wrong in flashing an update!

I would wait for the team. They may implement some additional fixes so you may flash easily. You need to delete it because there's a duplicate for that specific file (that's the message 7Zip gave me, I checked and it is true).

So far this newer version works a bit smoother than Milestone 5. Will test the battery with Wi-fi on later.

I suggest not touching it. I turned it off/on and the buttons no longer worked until a restart. Definitely a work in progress.

thing is it worked fine last time (m5).
the not working buttons you just have to make the bar "reappear" and they work again...oh well at least its not just me...

Has anyone tried to install AOKP b35 with a GT-7300 (3g)?

Noticing pretty high Android OS usage in the battery stats. I think this is something that plagues most of the ICS ROMs, since the very same happens in the ones released for the Samsung Vibrant. So far without touching it, Wi-Fi on, Sync off, I lost 1% in an hour (I used the rest of the 2% prior testing). I'm now testing with Sync on for an hour. I hope once we get ICS source this energy management stuff will get resolved for good.

I don't have this problem with the latest build. I can post a screenshot right now. I'll try tomorrow on my desktop pc.

Lost the same 1% in an hour with Wi-Fi and Sync on. Android OS usage reduced a little.

also had that issue (posted it a few pages back) seems to have gotten better now with b35 but android OS still is the main battery hog. but this really seems to be an ICS issue. lots of roms seem to have it. strangly my nexus one runs perfectly fine with no issues what so ever. lets hope when samsung FINALLY release ics this can get fixed. (but even some official ics roms seems to have this issue)

and still no update for 3g from galaxian soup.
    oh man...

i'm pretty sure most of the devs have a real life, job & better things to do than build roms for each release...
be patient. its free! if you don't like it figure out how to build and compile the rom yourself.
sorry if i sound kinda mean but people complaining about devs not releasing stuff, when the devs do it in their own time and for free kinda pisses me off...

With the greatest of respect, I did read all the posts, I've been following since the beginning. I was wondering with the AOKP folks being on build 32, whether or not we would be getting an upgrade.

Yes, I have a concern like everyone else about the camera but I know that's a problem across all ROM's. However if this one wasn't being developed, then it would not have a camera...not ever. There is no law that a ROM has to be developed forever.

We've been working on the camera for all gtab 8.9s (we would immediately share with all rom builders), but its not as easy as snapping your fingers. I personally have spent 12+ hours attempting to adapt the ICS wrapper (which has little to no documentation and isn't even for our SOC).

Blame samsung for their lack of expediency in releasing the source code or a rom. Once that happens (or a miracle of programming genius) we will add the camera support post haste.

For the record we will continue to develop this and the AOSP rom (and perhaps another), we have the experience to bring you quality. We hope you continue to appreciate our effort's, my build env is fixed so updates will come faster.

    Ciao
