Was it definitely the Xoom and not the XYBoard? They look alike but the XYBoard might be more ICS-ready due to the chipset.

From http://www.motorola.com/blog/2011/12/07/motorola-update-on-ice-cream-sandwich/

To recap our earlier post, we are planning to upgrade DROID RAZR™ by Motorola, Motorola RAZR™, Motorola XOOM™ (including Family Edition) and DROID BIONIC™ by Motorola to Ice Cream Sandwich. We will provide more precise guidance on timing after post-public push of Ice Cream Sandwich by Google, as well as any possible additions to this list of devices: As always, please refer to the Motorola Android Software Upgrade News page for the latest information.

Different websites seem to report different things. If it's OMAP, that makes more sense, but hopefully the bootloader won't be permanently locked.

BTW, here's what I was talking about... (I've only heard Tegra 2, but just Google'd OMAP)

Tegra 2:

http://www.phonedog.com/2011/12/09/motorola-and-verizon-missed-the-mark-with-the-droid-xyboards/

OMAP:

My bad!

Edit: Makes me laugh that there is a huge rant here about the Xyboard and he's got the architecture wrong. http://techcrunch.com/2011/12/06/try-try-again-the-xyboard-tablets-make-all-the-same-mistakes/

@solarnz

Any news on the AOSP ICS build for our loved Xoom?

Last one was November 21, what are the remaining issues?

If you don't have time to work on it anymore, please share your build/files, I (and maybe others here) will be happy to hack.

It seems weird to me that the xoom seems so far behind on ICS Dev... it should be the furthest you would think...

Looks like the HP Touchpad is further along then the xoom and it isn't even android native.

Is there anything your average person can do to help? I would love having even a really alpha build to test...

To reiterate before the wolves jump on me, I am not asking for ETAs, and I am not saying the work is not appreciated, I am asking if we can get a flashable build of ICS to put on our xooms so we can help. A large amount of people can make headway a lot faster then a small handful. I think that's why progress seems faster on other devices.

Thanks for your work.

Now that obviously the Galaxy Nexus has ICS and now the Nexus S is having it pushed out starting today... since this is a Google experience device I don't think it's going to be much longer until it pushes out for us.

Apparently the latest 4.0.3 AOSP can directly be built for the Xoom now:

https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/android-building/mjEzwvc_J4k

-From a straight AOSP, it works on Galaxy Nexus (the ones sold with
mysid and yakju builds), on Motorola Xoom (US variants), and on Nexus
S (all variants). Proprietary binaries will soon be available for
those devices at the usual location.

-Out of the box, this is the first time that AOSP works on 3 different
device families, the first time that it works on tablets, the first
time that it works directly on a device that's neither an ADP nor a
Nexus, and the first time that it works on Verizon devices.

So, it just depends on how soon is "soon" regarding the proprietary binaries. But I have a feeling we have a good chance of having ICS to play with in time for Xmas. :)
