Ouch that's a shame. Terrible price to pay for living in a hippie state!
I'm in a one-way consent state. That's probably the only thing it has going for it. Even used it at Best Buy once when they tried to screw me out of my TV warranty.

A big thing to remember is that if the call center you are speaking with is located in a state like Washington and you record it you may be committing a crime in that state even though you are not in that state. If, for instance, you call Comcast and get the call center in Lynnwood you could be recording in violation of Washington law even though you might be in Idaho because one to the parties is in Washington.

I'm aware. Luckily, the only call centers I get are in India!
Although the detection rate is slim, the majority of why I would call is for entertainment purposes. You should have heard me call the HP call center drunk. I was extremely inappropriate.

Try out reading the Revised Code of the State of Washington - RCW 9.73.030 and. 9.73.080.
Basically if you record a private conversation without the consent of all parties you have committed a Gross Misdemeanor if any of those people recording or requiring consent but haven't given such are within the state of Washington at the time of recording. You could be in Puerto Rico recording but if the other person was in Seattle the crime was committed in Seattle.
I have referred to the prosecutor on this specific statute more than once. It is a crime in my state. The internet is a terrible place to get legal advice (which no one should think I am offering as I am not offering legal advice).

OK... there is entire world out there (and some 99.99% of THIS FORUM'S USERS) who are not even remotely near great State of Washington.
I don't want to sound rude, but it is really simple: if your local law prohibits something/anything, and you WANT TO obey your laws - then DON'T DO IT, isn't it obvious?
And it should be obvious too, that the rest of the world (and again: 99.99% of this forum's users) don't care and don't want/need to know do you use it (or not), what stupid (or smart) laws are in your Great Country, or what weather is in Your Area for that matter... really THAT simple...
Posts like these are always so useless they ought to be considered spam
(and so are replies like mine too, I know... Nothing personal Coug76, I just couldn't resist this reply after wasting MY time on reading yet another useless off-topic sub-discussion in yet another thread)

To be fair to the guy, we all know there are a lot of ignorant (in the nice sense of the word) posters on XDA. Even though it may seem annoying to both of us, it could actually teach one of those posters something.
I think the more important point is that you're probably never going to get in trouble for it. If you try and use something like that in court, it will get tossed away, not end up sending you to prison. There are a ton of laws that aren't enforced in every state.

While you may be correct that XD is 99% not in the state of Washington. The ownership for the MT4GS I would argue to be 99.9% in the United States. This, as you are aware, is a forum for that device. I would argue that the audience is overwhelmingly of the United States.
The statement was made that it is a myth that non-consensual call recording is illegal (post 18). An uninformed user might not realize that what they were doing is actually illegal based on what they read here. I have specific knowledge on the subject which contradicts that posts statement. I would be remiss if I did not attempt to provide more complete information to those who might rely on what they read here.
While my statement specifically was only for the state I live in it does belie the absolute statement made in the post indicated.
This forum was designed to further the android experience. Many applications have been made and some of them would allow people to break the laws in their locations in ignorance. I see no problem with providing people more information. If someone doesn't want that information they can choose not to read it. Whether they be from Seattle or Saskatoon or Sumatra. This is a thread about call recording, in a forum with a very large US resident contingent, about a product that could potentially get android users into trouble. Rorytmeadows and I were having a public discussion comparing our understanding of how to apply this app. I don't believe that this discussion is off topic.
This forum, and reading it, is entirely voluntary; the individual chooses to waste their time or not.
Ignorance of the law is not a defense. It is better to know what the law actually is in your locale than not. While the majority of users may not be in the "great state of Washington" my statements may bring up the question in a person's mind such that they endeavor to find out what their local laws actually are. Knowledge is typically better than ignorance though some may argue otherwise. To each their own.

PS - while one may not want to sound rude, control of one's behavior is entirely up to the individual
It requires root and kernel with 2-way calling enabled to allow recording 'from line' instead of 'from mic'. The kernel with CM9 or virtuous inquisition has this feature enabled.
It is not perfect (in my opinion) and on my phone it records my side louder than incoming side, but it is adequate to hear and understand both sides of the conversation on playback and works automatically to record all calls if set up to do so.
agree with noscuhfile , it's great APP , and 4shared share this app for free :P
By now, we’re all quite familiar with Tasker, the personal automation app that seems to be able to … more
