I must really be blind or just ignorant. I have never noticed any transparency issues. How where they visible?

I did flash that zip though for good measure and gave thanks where due.

Can anyone tell me what this actually fixes? I must be blind since I haven't noticed any transparency issues..

Like I said above, I did flash it for good measure but I don't know what it fixed. I usually don't flash stuff before knowing what it actually fixes, but this time I did.

Are you asking this again or some posts after this were deleted by Mod??

Ok Issue is like if you install Apex/Nova and try to scroll through homescreens, the folders/icons/widgets on homescreen produce a shadow like effect which is actually like a frame/screenshot saved in memory and it overshadows the current frame..
So if current time is 12:34 and you have been scrolling since it was 12:33 and there is a time widget it will show the time like 12:3X where X is the shadow of 3 over 4.
Hope it clears a bit.. :highfive:

    .

Hmm, very interesting. Why then do most people recommend disabling it, including some Dev's. Also, please could you provide link to your source material.

    Thanks :)

Anyone else got an opinion on wether disabling/enabling is smoother for them?

Some interesting notes about the Developer Options in 4.1:
Animator Duration Scale - This is a new setting and this affects automatic animations in Android, such as swipe speeds when you swipe something away from Recent Apps (it affects the speed of which the list gets re-ordered). Also note that this setting seems to require a restart to be in effect.
Disable HW Overlays - I think that this setting is Project Butter. This should be the hardware vSync/TripleBuffer overlay. It is recommended to not disable this, unless for debugging.
Force GPU Rendering - This was already in 4.0, but was very buggy in 4.0 since a lot of apps were not compatible with it. It seems to be much better now because of HW overlays (that is, the benefit of GPU Rendering in apps is much better thanks to HW Overlays), but there are still bugs with some apps (like Androidify).

What makes this last Force GPU Rendering setting really awesome is that it enhances most WebViews much more in combination with HW Overlays, than before. This means that apps that have UI built with WebView are much faster with this setting on, if they haven't used it internally. But it is still recommended not to turn it on and let app developers to test it out first and support it out of the box."

"Uhm, Hardware overlay means, that the GPU dos all the work and if you disable it, the CPU will do the graphics job. As far as wiki told me yesterday Please correct me if i am wrong.

" In computing, hardware overlay, a type of video overlay, provides a method of rendering an image to a display screen with a dedicated memory buffer inside computer video hardware." http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hardware_overlay"

    And Here http://rootzwiki.com/topic/13092-leankernel-minimalistic-kernel-jb-430-81912/page__st__12020#entry782713

""disable HW overlays" -disables hw overlays (compositing) , which aims to improve the fluidity of fast moving graphics and I allow multiple layers of graphics without the need for constant redraws. This should probably not be disabled, as it is a contributing factor in the "smoothness" of jb, and would likely take away from the overall UX. http://en.m.wikipedi...ardware_overlay

"force gpu rendering" - forces 2d graphics to be rendered in gpu(hardware) as opposed to in software which would be handled by the cpu. This should give a performance bump, due to freeing up the cpu cycles and with directly rendering in hardware.

Unfortunately most apps are not yet designed to take advantage of this, and while most work fine, some will have graphics corruption/artifacts. (ie. Flipboard)

    CBA to post anymore loool
