TWRP rocks. Can name nandroid at time of backup and latest 2.4.0 has exFat external sd support.
For boot to recovery this app works fine and is much lighter. I use anytime rom doesn't have it baked in.

This sounds worth trying. So to switch to TWRP, do I just use ODIN again to flash the download that included TWRP (#7 listed in the OP) over top of what I have now (using CWM Recovery) or is there more I have to do?
