Default screen black, but phone works. Help please.

Hello everyone,
phone was fine, then took it out of my pocket to find the screen is black. I was low on battery, so charged it for a bit, but no difference. When I press power, it becomes a brighter black, but thats it. Phone works when someone calls, obviously can't pick it up though, and I see the notification flashes. What can I do?

The phone is unlocked, but S is on. I don't have insurance, but previously Sprint helped out with the 35 dollar flat rate fee. Will they do that again if unlocked?

What are my options? Thanks everyone.

DONATE TO ME
First off, reboot the phone. Either use adb reboot or just pull the battery and put it back in. If that doesn't work, boot into the bootloader. (hold power+vol-down while the phone is off.) If both cases don't give you anything on the screen, chances are your backlight is just dead. Even those tiny LED's burn out, but they're supposed to last quite a while.

edit: by "unlocked" do you mean you unlocked the bootloader? If so, then the warranty got voided when you did the unlock.
Look! A distraction!

Default dohyste July,

I pulled the battery multiple times, didn't work. Tried booting into bootloader, didn't work either. When I press the power button, it gets a bit brighter, but don't see anyting. yes, I unlocked the bootloader. The warranty would be void, but how can they even check if the screen is not showing anything? Also, they said my warranty was up at the year mark, so would they fix it or replace with the 35 dollars

Check to make sure the "getting brighter" isn't just light leaking from the haptic buttons at the bottom (home/menu/back/search). Otherwise, I dunno, sorry.

do you guys think if I changed the upper half of the phone or just the screen, the problem would be solved, or possibly a software issue?

thx

Perhaps it's something simple as getting a new battery?
How old is the current battery?

the battery is the original. It's a two year contract and I'm up in January, so about a year and a half old battery. The phone was a replacement I got last week due to bad speakers on the first one, but the battery is from the original phone.

I also tested to see if the touch screen works by calling myself. I was able to pick up, so it's the screen only as it seems.
