This is 'per' chromecast deal I believe, as I;ve tried with my household users and it redeems the same code.

i picked one up today from PC World, but it won't redeem, very odd :(
8 (number) and B (letter) look very similar on the serial number, probably because someone felt nostalgic and used a 1980's-resolution printer to make it.

Can't remember offhand whether the Chromecast app reports the serial number. It's also etched on the Chromecast unit itself with higher resolution, but lower contrast. Google must think we're all eagle-eyed.

The actual method from the android app is as follows:

Open the chromecast app
  • Wait for the list of devices to populate.
  • Select the relevant device.
  • Wait for the "Connecting to XXXX" dialogue to finish.
  • When all the device info etc pops up, press the menu overflow button.
  • Select "Check for offers" and follow the instructions. (You must agree to send your serial number).
  • It should then allow you to open the play store and redeem the voucher immediately.
From a PC/laptop, you need to try http://www.chromecast.com/offers and follow the instructions.

In both cases you must be connected to the same Wifi network as the relevant chromecast and on a PC/laptop, you need to be using the Chrome browser and have the Google Cast extension installed.

Woohoo, got mine.

Confirmed only worked on my UK one tho, not the US one. Which was expected.

Thanks for the headsup!

No offers

I get no offers found on my chromecast bought from Currys UK chromecast. Is there anyone we can get in touch with to talk about this?

That's a relief, though unfortunate that it refuses to redeem for you.
