[MODEM][Zip] Modems for Loki'd & Safestrap roms (12/03/2014)

Search This thread
You can flash any of the modems you want. Make sure you flash modem only, the non-hlos packages are for if you're having serious issues. The newest modem showing in the OP is fnk1, there have been newer releases since that which you can search for in the thread. I'm currently on the version ending in OC1 which I believe is the most recent version. Its working great for me so that's the one I'm sticking with. You'll have to play around and see which one works best for you. When I flash a new modem, I always flash the file, then go back and wipe cache & dalvik before rebooting. Hope this helps you out a bit.

Okay folks, here come the ever reoccurring set of ignorant question. Kindly humor me. This should be quick…

I have an SCH-I545 / Verizon GS4 with the MDK baseband (as listed in About phone), and I assume MDK bootloader, running CM12.1. I'm also using TWRP V2.8.4.0. I have regularly flashed CM11 and CM12.1 builds, and make Nandroid backups using TWRP before each CM flash.

The title of this thread is "[MODEM][Zip] Modems for Loki'd & Safestrap roms", and I can't be sure that my device qualifies.

Simple questions:
1) Can I grab a Modem package from the beginning of this thread and simply flash the .zip file using TWRP?
2) What is a recommended Modem .zip to install?
3) I gather that the various modem zips can be switched between freely, without wiping anything else in the phone, correct?
4) And finally, has anyone heard of this GPS problem ([Q] Dead GPS when out of the country), and will a newer modem possibly fix this? Also having flaky Bluetooth share crashes on CM12.1. I'm not alone.

1. Yes
2. Depends, usually the newest, which I haven't put up but someone else prob has linked to
3. Yes
4.yes, no, and OK (dunno if you wanted a response to Bluetooth share issue or not).

Just don't flash any of the hlos ZIPs on mdk and you're golden.

Thank folks for the clear replies.

Is there any info on what changes are in the modem revs?

Also, is there a field to check or app which shows the bootloader version separately from the baseband version?

Have you verified your APNs are correct? A quick Google search should help.

the apn is correct! and i think the hardware does'nt match romania's orange 4g band! because when ai select Lte/CDMA on preffered network mode...it doesn't find any networks! i have signal only on Global or LTE/GSM/UMTS.
Did you flash the OC1 modem only and what is you bootloader version (in terminal emulator type getprop ro.bootloader)?

You could try flashing the nonhlos that matches your BL (they need to match) then reflash the modem of choice. Do this from withing recovery and wipe cache/davlik before rebooting.

If it is an issue with orange 4G I'm not sure what the fix would be, if any, without searching.

---------- Post added at 10:51 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:37 AM ----------

I did some reading and have a couple other questions.

Do you still have the original VZW SIM installed? If so it will probably not have working 4G on many European networks due to differences in the frequency bands. I have read some things about installing prepaid SIMs but it also requires applying proper APN changes to work.

Wish I could be more helpful.

If you are absolutely certain the bootloader has been updated to VRUGOF1, grab the OF1 modem + non-HLOS from this post I made a while back (link is also in my signature):

Hi i need help please , I have a Galaxy S4 I545 Verizon to buy in Spain , apparently to be used , the store bought it from someone who originally bought in the United States. And only I can connect on 3G and even in the back of the device says s4 verizon 4g lte . When I change the LTE network goes without service. Let alone globally connect on 3G, I wonder if I can enable or install 4G LTE bands . Now I live in Sweden and have no lte since only 700 US that band is used. Thank you

odin APNHLOS error (NON-HLOS.bin)

I was asked to post these, so here are all the modems. They can be flashed in both Loki and Safestrap recoveries. You can flash back and forward as you like. The 3rd is from the dev. GS4 and works with consumer GS4's as well. In Safestrap if you flash it on the non-safe side (rom slot sides) it will still show on the safe side, don't worry you can still flash back. If needed pm or post a reply and ill put up the Odin tar's as needed or you can extract the modem.bin files and create an odin image yourself, all modem.bin files are trimmed of the padded zeroes and will register as signed. For most users flashing the modem only zips is all thats needed and the safest option. Do not flash any of the NON-HLOS + modem zips beyond MDK if your on mdk, and none past ME7 if your on Safestrap with a ME7 base and none past MI1 if your using Safestrap with a MI1 base.

Note: CM users, if you use the VRUEMJ7 modem with NON-HLOS.bin you will lose audio until you flash a cm build made on 10/29 or later!

The nonhlos packages are for recovery if you have problems! ONLY FLASH THE NONHLOS and MODEM PACKAGES OF THE BOOTLOADER YOU ARE ON!

Listen, I couldn't even read what you just wrote due to the excessive use of exclamation marks. You went into great detail to basically say that Odin keeps saying there's an error flashing APNHLOS. So just flash the latest stock one, or just flash the factory image.

Next time spend more time giving details that would be pertinent to finding a solution instead of 5000 exclamation marks. This isn't even the right thread for your device, nor is it a support thread. Also, this is a 5 year old post, good lord update your device.

Hi, thank you for answering me, where can I raise my problem? I'm afraid and stress I'm sorry if I'm upset :)

Try the following:

Make sure you have the right version of Odin. When I had my GS4 I believe I had 3.07.

First from recovery wipe data/factory reset then reboot. Hanging at the Sammy logo usually means factory reset and try again.

If it boots then try to flash the modem. If you flash the APNHLOS make sure to flash the one that matches the current firmware. If you want a newer modem, flash the modem only.

If it does not boot or hangs find the correct firmware for your phone and flash it with Odin. Sammobile.com is where I think they are. Make sure to factory reset before first boot.

Then try again....

Pixel 3 XL, haven't crashed it, YET

Today ahoslc on a different thread found the odin for the unreleased 4.4.2 update http://sxtpdevelopers.com/samsung-sch-i545-verizon-kit-kat/ I am interested in the only the modem but I don't know how to grab it from the tar file.

Added I545VRUFNC2_modem_apnhlos.zip and I545VRUFNC2_modem.zip to the OP

    No modem extracted yet?

    No OTA link yet?

If you have a link, let me know. I'll extract and zip it up after I get home tonight.

EDIT - Found the OTA. I'll create and upload the zips shortly, then I'll have Surge add them to the OP.

EDIT2 - Here are the links for modem only and modem + NON-HLOS zips for VRUGOC1:

    Modem only: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23991606952594946
    Modem + NON-HLOS: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23991606952594947

MD5sums are on the AFH pages, and I've verified the ones displayed on the site match the zips before uploading. As always, remember to ONLY flash the modem + NON-HLOS zip if your bootloader is already on VRUGOC1 (it's not). I'll get in touch with Surge and have him update the OP whenever he can.
