True win 8 boots faster
But it fluctuates fast~slow

But in win 7 boot time was always the same
which was nice

Is it ?
Boot time in Windows 8 is always consistent for me .
However on my Windows 7 ,it's goes downhill in 3 months.
Also ,both of the versions have same software installed.

the boot issues on Windows 7 are noticeable on both my laptop and desktop.
Desktop is C2D 2.8Ghz + 4GB RAM + 512 MB gfx card
Laptop is Ci5 2.4 Ghz + 6 GB RAM + 2GB gfx/hybrid

Turn off/turn on = slow
Hard turn off/turn on = even slower

But on win 7 all the same

Mine is somewhat like this

Reboot from-to Windows 8=Fastest
Turn/off and on Windows 8=Fast
Hard turn off and on =fast
Switch from Linux to Windows 8=fast
Boot Linux Mint= fast

Boot Windows 7= So slow that it's painful to see it boot. Reminds me of Windows Vista.

I'm having so much trouble getting used to win8 that I actually only use it for things that can't get done with Ubuntu... Which I admit is not helping me getting used to it :-/

I and agree, boot time is a real pain!

I think after about 6 months of daily use, I finally fully appreciated Windows 8(.1 in my case), and I believe it is perfect for a touchscreen convertible laptop like mine. It probably took me a week to get used to it.

I download something called Classic Shell on every windows 8/8.1 I install. It gives you a true start button but also gives you the option to use metro. It also puts the windows 7 UI features into 8/8.1 to make it a more complete package.

Im not marketing here I love using windows 8.1 now and thats just my experience.

I also have 11 years of IT so I know a good OS when I see one.

W8 is not my favorite OS... I'm looking forward to 10. For me it looks too childish and much too colorful

I don't know the exact amount of time, probably about a week. I was quite impressed about the new Windows 8.1 . Apart from the gadgets, startmenu and icons I think performance is pretty fast compared to Win7.
