The only thing causing me to want to swap my wife's captivate once she is up for renewal is the fact that the GPS on the original Captivate is so bad. If it werent for that I would keep her on the Captivate until it died.

That's normal android behavior. Downloading apps and installing kills single core devices in terms of speed

Does USB mode work for everyone on 4.2? I just noticed that I can't connect to my PC.

nm - Got it working with a cache clear.

I have seem that problem, weird that plugging the phone on the desk cradle for a few seconds bring it back to normal or rebooting the PC while plugged

To all you guys using a non-stock kernel, what are the advantages? Why use Semaphore or Devil over stock?

Freaking overclocking! it's fun making your phone work extra hard and killing a battery in 8 hours. lol. I had run a stable 1.508ghz awhile ago. everything is so fast when overclocked, well until you crash something and reboot. lol.

also features like fast charge(haven't played with this yet)
touchwake is awesome, as well as led blink notifications.
More free ram.

So many settings to play with.

custom kernels allow you to take so much more advantage of your phone hardware.

Touchwake and fastcharge are in stock kernel. :silly:

lol, the sarcasm module failed to load. hahah

Is it me or is this thread getting close to dying? I absolutely love Slim ICS and I can't thank Krarvind enough for all his work. I'd say slim 4.2 is a great testament to his abilities.

I am so glad to hear the Krarvind is working on Slim Jelly Bean! can't wait for JB for captivate!

What are you talking about?

Touchwake and fastcharge are in stock kernel.

Goodness, I know this already. I've been told 3 times now. I was being sarcastic when I said "lol wut?"
I forgot that sarcasm/humor sometimes doesn't work in text form.

Hrm... rebooted my phone and now I'm forever stuck on the Slim boot screen. This is the 3rd time it's happened to me and the only way to fix it is to reflash the whole ROM. Anyone have this happened to them before? I asked in the past and didn't get any answers.

It's never happened to me so far. Sorry to hear you're having this problem.

Which version of slim? Stock kernel? Does a nandroid restore fix it?

What were you doing prior to the reboot?

It's happened to me on both Slim 4.1 and 4.2. I'm not using stock kernel so I'll probably get flamed for asking this. No I don't have a nandroid. Reflashing ROM isn't even working either now. Gotta format system...

I manually rebooted the phone. I wasn't doing anything.

Stopped Working?

I've been through a lot of this thread, I I want to say two things:
1. Sometimes you have to just uninstall and re-install an app in the market (after the first install). I'm not entirely sure why this works, but it seems to have a higher success rate than merely Clearing Cache on that particular app. And force-closing and re-Clearing the Cache. And wiping the /cache and Dalvik cache.
2. The Events display on the Lockscreen doesn't seem to work quite right. It shows that there is an upcoming event, but since it cuts off the description I don't really know what it is until I go to the calendar anyway. For example, at the moment I have an event with the following attributes:
Date {Tomorrow}
Time: 400p-900p
Title: Pace
Location 1000 W ()()()()

This event ends up being displayed on the Lockscreen as "Tomorrow at 4:00 pm (1000...", which is only so helpful. I would anticipate that the Tomorrow would turn into Today, which would probably allow me to see an extra three characters, but that's still problematic. Is there any way to have it be wider and/or span multiple lines?

    4.1 Released:
    Note:
Overall change in how i am structuring Slim. No more Base + essentials + gapps. Device ROM + SLim Common ( which inclues slim gapps among other common non compiled stuff). Just flash Device ROM version THEN Slim Common ( includes Slim Gapps). you should be set.

3.9 Released. I will say this, read the changelog and FAQ, before posting questions. If you find ppl posting without reading, just direct them to them the changelog page, don't give them the answer, its a few lines not that hard.

You need to d/l and flash Base, Device essentials and Slim Gapps. From next time on you just need to d/l base and device essentials as long as you don't lose Slim Gapps or i don't change it. Happy Friday Everyone!

NOTE: Read the changelog below carefully and the FAQ before posting questions .

    All Devices:

    • Apollo ( CM9) music compiled from sources - thanks cm team
    • Updated germant translations for DeskClock - thanks Basian Mile
    • Reduce processing in WebCore thread while scrolling and zooming based on this
    • External Webkit changes based on this, this and this.
    • Hide storage option in camera for devices that don't have external storage based on this
    • Don't try to create an ad-hoc network when no wireless network is available based on this
    • SlimPapers.apk with a couple of wallpapers, nothing fancy. Will put it in OTA app for those who want to use it. - thanks jeffyca at rootz for slimlogo wallpaper
      trans.gif
    • CM9 Quiet Hours
    • New boot animation - thanks jeffyca at rootz
    • Basic gapps included in base is pulled and made a separate flashable zip, reason is two fold,
      • make google happy as they prefer this route and
      • they don't change often, so why bloat the base unnecessarily.
    • Whatever was in UpdateMe ( GenieWidget etc etc), Apps, Stays there,
    • Make sure to flash slim_gapps along with base and essentials to get working multi dpi playstore, gmail, talk, video chat, email and exchange. If you flash another gapps, you are on your own, don't complain apps are not compatible if you are not on slim gapps. This is the way moving forward, you can cry about if you want
