Yea I have been kind of harsh towards cdma lately. After using cdma for many years though i have been impressed with my switch to hspa+. It is a more balanced and stable technology imo.

You have the right idea i agree, if one is to be on cdma you should probably only use 4glte when absolutely needed. 3g is plenty fast for most things and eats up way less data and battery.

Another factor in your decision should be the coverage and speeds you get from the carriers at the places you frequent the most. This is very personal to you.

Since you are signing a new contract, I would recommend you make sure you can see in writing the return policy. Usually you will be given 15-30 days to return a device if you are having coverage issues.

If you are buying the GSM Galaxy Nexus, I am not sure how to best do that. Perhaps get a device that you can sell for a lot easily on ebay so that if you like the service you can sell you plan's device and swap the SIM into the one you buy from google
