If there's no SIM lock, and you can put in another CDMA sim from overseas, then PERHAPS you can bypass the Google apps block to install. I had a i-9100 from HK, so when I set up the phone with a HK or US sim card, I was fine. But if I set it up (from factory reset) with a China sim card, then some apps are blocked from being installed.

Sorry, a noob here.
I've just bought a 802w from China Unicom recently. I would like to find out if anyone knows how to set the default voice call to one sim and default 3G data connection to the other sim. Seems like the pre-installed OS could only set voice & data to ONE default sim only.

I happened to google around and saw this:

From the look of it, I can't tell which Android version this blogger is using, he didn't mention which phone too. But there is an option to choose which sim is the default for voice call and which sim is the default for data.

I'm using 802d, in China, but, I don't have to set default. Just insert your default one (internet enabled sim card) in the middle of the back, and your secondary GSM sim card at the bottom of the back. Both take microsim (same size as iphone 4).

You should be able to make use of your primary (the one in the middle on the back) by using "SLOT 1" or make use of your secondary (GSM/EDGE only) by using "SLOT 2"

It is happening because you do not have the stock recovery on your phone. Clockwork Mod is a custom recovery. You need the stock one for the ota to install. The OTA update reboots the phone into recovery and then installs. It is failing because it reboots into Clockwork, not the stock recovery.
Find and fastboot usb flash the stock recovery, then let the OTA install. You can then reflash Clockwork if you are planning to flash custom roms or mods.

So how do I go about putting the original recovery back so I can flash the update? I assume after flashing, I can put back Clockworkmod recovery again to flash custom stuff.

Here is my current progress (I recorded them for those who are following the same footsteps)...

This is after I rooted and installed google play apps...



This shows what the ClockworkMod recovery and how to get into Bootloader (made sure annotations is on in video).



Notice after reboot it Android tries to install stuff (it does this every time). I suppose we need a solution of getting the regular recovery back to install the official updates from HTC. Anyone successfully done this yet?

The HTC One I am using is this one (htc 802w):

Maybe I wasn't clear in my previous post. If I select SLOT 1 as 'default', and uses my bluetooth headset to make a call while driving, it automatically select SLOT 1 as my outgoing call, while I wish to use SLOT 2 as my 'default' voice call. So, if I select SLOT 2 as 'default', which is my China Mobile number, the GPRS (2G) data connection is too slow hence I have to keep switching between SLOT 1 & SLOT 2 as my 'default' which is very frustrating. SLOT 2 while driving using bluetooth voice dialling, SLOT 1 when I need to use 3G connection.

Does anyone know how to work around this? Hence, the screen shot which I attached in my previous post, knowing that ICS 4.0.4 (UK carrier) has that option to choose which sim is default for data, and which sim is default for voice.

Do you know if they have the stock rom also available for 802w, because the CWM is still a custom rom which if we want to reverse back to stock to OTA would not work.

Does factory reset restore anything? There is an option in the bootloader for that. I was wondering what factory reset actually does?

Does it restore the Recovery?
Does it un-root your HTC One?
Does it delete your added google apps?
Does it re-lock your bootloader?

Is there any way where I can get the original stock recovery file to flash in case of OTA updates? E.g. install the original stock recovery, Apply the OTA update, reflash the CMW recovery.

If you take a look at page 4, they have been already posted, but only in Chinese.

I guess this is a very noob question: So this is the stock recovery from the 802w? I.e. I would flash that to my phone and I would be able to run the OTA update afterwards?

I guess the flashing is pretty much straight forward as with the custom recovery by using fastboot flash recovery. With "In Chinese" I assume you mean is the update process then afterwards, though? I.e. when you downloaded the OTA update and the phone is updating? Given that I cannot read and write Chinese: Is there a lot of interaction necessary?

    Update 9th July 2013.
    Android 4.2.2 has been released for the 802W since this thread was started. I suggest that you apply any OTA updates to your phone BEFORE rooting as you cannot apply them automatically afterwards.
    you can then follow the process as outlined below to Root your phone, or alternatively you can just install the Google apps from the HTC store.
    I have added at the end of this post some links to some of the most useful posts and downloads available throughout this thread.

    I have now successfully rooted my dual sim HTC ONE .. model 802W from China Unicom.. by following the steps in this posting :

    but even with the help of my Chinese speaking wife, and google translate it wasn't exactly easy.. so to save you the work these are the steps I followed:

    Note I am assuming that you have some knowledge and experience in rooting android phones, using ADB, fastboot etc, and you have the usb drivers installed, as well as set up your phone to allow USB debugging etc.

    1) Unlock your phone go to http://www.htcdev.com/bootloader and follow the procedure there .
    2) download and unzip the zip file which contains clockwork mod recovery image, SuperSU.zip and the google apps installer from http://rapidshare.com/files/885321457/HTC1_802W Root.zip
    3) Switch off the phone and boot it into Bootloader mode. Coonect the phone to your computer with usb cable.
    4) Open a command window in the folder where the cwm802w.img file is placed. Now type the following
    fastboot flash recovery cwm802w.img
    This will then flash Clockwork mod to your phone.
    5) copy the SuperSU and Google apps zip files to your EXternal SD card
    Reboot into clockwork mod recovery
    And first flash the superSUxxxxx.img file from your external SD card, and then flash the google apps .img file.
    Voila!..

    YES IT WORKS!!!

    So, we now can get google services into HTC One 802w without rooting!

    This is the steps, thank you to charmforyou and robertibmartin.

    1. Take out your SD card (installation will fail with SD card inserted, don't ask me why). Before I took my SD card out, I changed the default save location to phone memory, just to be safe (setting > storage > storage settings)

    2. Go to the HTC app store

    3. Search for GMS app (See attached image 01). I just used 'gms' as the search string

    4. Download the 150KB app (it's basically a downloader for the 150MB google services framework)

    5. Run the app, you will get a downloading notice like so (see attached image 01, middle of the screen)

    6. Once it finished download, pick run (or ok, I forgot exactly which). Note: If you have the sd card inserted, here the process will fail with "unfortunately the GMS app has closed unexpectedly", then take out the sd card, uninstall the GMS app and redownload (if will still fail without reinstalling and redownloading).

    7. This screen will appear after you run the app (see image 02)

    8. Insert the *#*#442#*#* code as stated on the screen. As you enter the last *, the phone will automatically reboot.

    9. What happens next you can see in images 03 - 06, you can see google play icon in image 06.

    So the questions now become:

    1. What happens when google updates its services framework? Will it update itself automatically?

    2. Can the phone do OTA updates? My assumption is yes, since I did not root.

    This is interesting. So i did a factory reset (settings > backup & reset > reset phone), and google services is still there.

    Now it's the perfect phone. STOCK ROM & BOOTLOADER, DUAL SIM, GOOD CAMERA, GOOD BATT LIFE & GOOGLE SERVICES!! :good::good:
