My phone starts and recognizes an sd card fine but then over the course of the day loses its ability to recognize the card and subsequently all those things that depend on an sd card. You should turn that phone in under warranty because it has a major problem if it will not recognize an sd card even when it starts up.

Atrix 2 has many bugs in it and motorola is not doing anything to overcome it. When other manufacturers provides various updates to remove the errors our Motorola is rolling out updates to lock the booloader which they are doing with old atrix.
