Unhappy Google Now without data plan?

It also uses your Google searches to trigger cards as well - such as if you search travel info for a certain destination.

You can toggle which cards/notifications show in the settings but I think Google still tracks all of that information as long as you are opted in to G Now.
Currently (and for 14 more months) I am stuck on a smartphone with no data plan!! I was just wondering: is Google Now relevant and useful at all without a data plan? When does it connect to an internet source to check something (like location and traffic)? Also, would it still work if I downloaded a map and used that instead?

anybody want to be the guinea pig to try this on a sensation with the new ARHD 7.0 and report battery usage. that is the only thing making me hesitant on trying google now. i don't think it's usage would outweigh the additional battery drain.

Why not be your own guinea pig?

because from what i've read (i know you can't take it for 100% truth), google now decreases battery life. personally, i hold battery life at a higher importance than having google now. if you are going to be comparing figures, you need to have a constant. ideally, you should have 2 brand new batteries in 2 identically set-up phones (same ROM, same kernel, same apps, etc.) and the only difference would be that one would have google now and the other does not. while that is difficult to reproduce, the next best way would be to gather data from several individuals with as many similarities as possible and then look at the average.
