Anyone else experiencing the app crashing when trying to setup your city card?
Galaxy S III I747
Hi,
Followed the guide, used Root Explorer, etc. Got Google Wallet installed and prepaid card activated within 10 mins. Tried to use it at a walgreens today and it wouldn't even pick up the phone. Possibly the store itself?
Also restored the build.prop and wiped Play cache/data and it's still saying Samsung htc_Jewel when I go to play.google.com - any other suggestions?
Verizon
Stock ROM
any help for canadian users on a clear way to get this to work, specifically on wind mobile?
also, any idea if we can load/reload the google prepaid card with any type of prepaid credit card? i know there is some online one that modaco or whatever suggests, but i'm not paying 40 dollars to get an address with them, only to be able to use it once, then have to do it again.... it's bad enough paying a 5 dollar fee for a prepaid mastercard vanilla, but 40% just ain't gonna happen....
So it seems like I'm screwed... I had to reinstall my rom due to issues with the email client I caused. I deleted all my backups in the process (didn't lose anything really, just time spent).
Anyways after all this Google wallet disabled my prepaid card when I attempted to use it in a store (after I added $20 onto it). So I went ahead and called support and basically they told me verizon doesn't support it on my phone and that I'm sol and that they won't help me unlock the card...
Any ideas? The only thing I can think of is to mod the build.prop file so it looks like a sprint phone with google wallet and just tell them I changed carriers?
This sucks, screw verizon and screw google for going along with their bs.
I have a great idea for google: Buy verizon.
Did you flash the Verizon zip?
It is possible that the Walgreen reader is down...many have had problems with them.
As far as the play showing htc_jewel... this will go away. Then when it does, it might still be under "your devices" where you can delete it.
This brings up a point, if you want NO problems, follow the directions. It doesn't say activate card then go download apps from play... once the card is activated, complete the steps. i.e. 9 and 10
*This Mod is for touchwiz roms only!
Google wallet already works on cm9 and should work on any aosp (i.e. AOKP) rom using the cm9 libs
Ok, first a little background
basically what you are seeing if you try to install google wallet on at&t, tmo, etc, is you get stuck on "activating device"
If you dig a little further and ran a logcat, you will see that there it no "SMX detected"
What this means, when compiling the rom you need to enable SmartMX in the config headers located in the external/libnfc-nxp library. (thats why it works on CM9, they do this)
this is impossible for us because there is no source for samsung's TouchWiz. We got a break on the international sgs3 as the latest update has the secure element enabled...so does the sprint sgs3
well that got me thinking, and of course sprint's nfc libs are close enough to work without breaking anything
so this is how to do it. (btw, you need root)
1-make a nandroid! I am not responsible if you mess up your device
2-edit you build.prop using root explorer (when you press save, it creates a build.prop.bak)
do not use ES explorer, it does not save correctly, for that matter ONLY use root explorer! (or adb push/pull)
/system/build.propCode:ro.product.model=htc_jewel ro.product.name=htc_jewel ro.product.device=htc_jewel
3-boot to recovery and flash the appropriate zip
-wallet-sgs3-att_tmo-fix.zip (at&t, us cellular & tmobile)
-wallet-sgs3-verizon_telus.zip (verizon & telus)
-wallet-sgs3-cm9_aokp_aosp.zip (aosp based roms)
4-reboot device, you will get "android is updating" (only this first boot)
5-open google wallet and sign in
6-add google prepaid card and get free $10
7-(optional)if you get "error adding card try again later", wipe cache and davlik cache from recovery (only once! it sometimes takes hours, not minutes)
8-profit (hold on! your not done, continue on to steps 9 & 10)
9-after it is all up and running, mount r/w in root explorer, delete the modded build.prop, then rename build.prop.bak to build.prop
10-make a nandroid and put it in a safe place in case you ever accidentally install a new ROM without resetting google wallet data.
where google wallet works
note* if you have used google wallet on another device, your prepaid card on the sgs3 is not the same...so balances will not carry over
really the key is the libs with the security element enabled (google wallet app)...
then the build.prop for the card (supported devices)

Update to Google wallet, now works with any credit /debit card. Can we just update thru market?

no,
our device needs a patched wallet that doesn't check device/carrier.
Paul at Modaco is on vacation, as soon as he updates his patched wallet apk I will update the op
Anybody happen to know if we will have to restore a nandroid once the apk is updated? Just concerned that installing the update on top of the working app will cause the secure element issues covered in the OP.

Try the following:
***Note*** If the ROM your are flashing is TouchWiz-based for step 5 you need to flash one of the below for your device BEFORE step 6 and then continue.
- Force Stop on Wallet app
- Clear Cache and Clear Data on Wallet app (in Application manager)
- Delete all traces of it from both locations /system/app and /data/app/ (might be called Wallet.apk too)
- Reboot
- [OPTIONAL] Flash a fresh version of your AOSP-based ROM (no wipe required)***
- Push the apk from this link and set the permissions (DO NOT OPEN IT YET!!)
- Reboot
- Open the Wallet app and set everything up
- Check what Tap and Pay says in "About" section of the app
- Confirm what happens on transaction

Changed the lines, forced stop, cleared the data, deleted the com.google.android.apps.wallet folder in /data/data, rebooted and it went through. I am not sure that all the other steps were necessary but I did so just in case there was a trigger stored in a data file somewhere.
