The bad thing was I just couldn't buy the G2. Not right now. Something felt off. Maybe G2x flashbacks but I ended up leaving it on the counter. Something drew me to the Note 3.
There is currently no development on the Note3 but they say a Play Store Edition is going to be Announced alongside the N5 which will spark development. Having a Google Play edition of the Note 3 would be better then the G2 and expecting leftovers from N5 devs.
But that's another thing, these phones lose most of their appeal when on AOKP or CM. One of the big things I like on both is the Note Overlay app where you can take notes while switching apps. The S-Pen would probably have other methods for this to function but probably not the G2. My phone is for work, so taking notes would really come in handy often. I do like how the G2 does it too, but again we're talking about how they would function on a custom rom.
The G2 knockon would work, and it does, better actually on AOSP. It isn't a new feature to custom flashers. Both my N7 and Galaxy Nexus do this now. Its a kernel modification.
I do like how the G2 has wireless charging built in vs the Note 3 is a separate back plate, which makes it bow out and kills the use of feather cases.
The G2s screen is tapered on the left/right sides so a dry screen protector won't work. You'll have to use a wet apply that bends and adheres. I never had a Samsung with a button, so I don't know how a Screen protector would work with that. Fine if you're careful enough.
Both have gorgeous screens and seemed a similar brightness. I love the Note3s back. Although I typically use a Incipio Feather case.
The G2 back buttons have their ups and down from what I read. Most notably is that they are easier to control while still seated in your pocket, but that also means outside forces also trigger stuff like launching camera app and taking pocket shots, turning on the screen more often, changing volumes (missed calls) etc.
Both have their quirks. Tough call.
Poor fit Screen Protectors
Accidental button taps/app launches
Poor LG support
^Could cause kernel probs on future Android
Lose almost all features on AOSP rom
4.2.2 while 4.4 is nearing
May never see Android 5.0 officially
Resell will be laughable
Easier to grip
Cool features on stock
Good dev right now
Easy to flash
On-screen nav buttons are cool to mod (keyboard arrows, apps, theme, move around, more future proof)
Note 3 Pros
SPen even on AOSP
Play Edition = More Future Proof
Cool stock features
Samsung officially updates more
Probably get Android 5.0 faster
Great back cover
Will sell for more
Screen not only bigger but hardware buttons = even more space
Note 3s Cons
No Wireless Charging
Harder to root/flash
Harder to handle
Agh I can't decide. I'd trade both for a N5 just so I'd be updated for sure in 2 years.
Pretty sad that my 2 year old phone is more up-to-date then any newly released devices. Something is pushing me toward the Note3 but lack of wireless charging out of the gate is bad. I Qi charge my N7 and Galaxy Nexus. My GN is retrofitted like the Note would have to. Its a pain and wish it was just built in so I don't have to worry about contacts and specific.
I'll have to make my choice after the Google event. Honestly the Note just felt better. The G2 felt just like my old G2x and it scares me. LG always makes banging hardware but its riddled with bugs and they don't fix them. They launch with old software with promises of updates that will probably never happen. LG will probably bump to 4.3 in summer 2014 and call it quits. Fortunately the G2 seems to be pretty bug free.

Have to disagree about accidental button tap on the G2...the fact the buttons are on the rear helps to not accidentally hit them vs my other phones
So far I've never hit my buttons and my phones in all kind of situations. Nothing to worry about here
