If you have 2g internet, but no 3g signal (only G or E on the status bar) get BPSW-Switcher1.5.4.apk from here
and select your region.
If you have 3g signal (check it by going to settings, about phone, status, mobile network type, it should say UMTS or HSPA) but no internet connection, you will have to manually add your carrier's APNs (google them or contact your carrier's customer service). Add them on settings, wireless, mobile networks (i think, i don't have gingerbread here
