Now fixed...fault identified as being SIM card issue as testing sim in different device produces same results.

Bought my partner a Moto G from Tesco and proceeded to unlock it with an unlock code from a web supplier as he wanted to use it with his Orange contract... Phone unlocked without a problem however the carrier name is displayed in the notification bar at the top as loads of @ signs. If you drag the notification bar down the @ signs are displayed at the bottom of the screen. I've attached a screen shot..any one have any ideas what is wrong? Or how to fix this?
