Default Need clarification

Rooted. Stock Rom.

Not too familiar with OTA's on a rooted phone and I'm a bit confused after reading through this thread. Should I go through the un-root process first or should I just download the OTA now?

Will I lose root or not? Can someone quickly explain the process I should go through with my situation (rooted through odin with stock rom)? Thank you in advance for any and all help! I just want to be confident that this won't break my phone >_<

Do you have a custom recovery such as CWM installed? If not, then just use OTA Root Keeper from the Market, Backup root, allow the OTA. When it's done, use OTA Root Keeper to restore root, and then I would suggest a factory reset to avoid any problems with bugs. Make sure after you do the factory reset that you reinstall busybox

What is the main purpose of the OTA Root Keeper? I would like to try it when Jelly Bean offically hits T-Mobile. Then unroot and update to 4.1.1. Don't really want to try it unless I know it won't brick my phone or I know I will get back my root. It does have alot 5 star reviews on Google Play.

Hi. Thanks for the response. Yes, I do have CWM installed. I followed the root guide using Odin which ended with installing CWM. You only mentioned how to go about it if I didn't have CWM, can you please explain the CWM method? (I already have a backup from right after I rooted as well)

I would just like to be safe and certain because I don't want to brick my phone. With all these Galaxy S3 brick stories, I'm very hesitant on doing anything on this phone just yet - it was much simpler on my old MyTouch4g >_<. Thank you for your time and help!

If you want the actual OTA, which is what I stick with, then you have to flash stock recovery first in Odin. Then proceed as previously stated.
