Hi,

I thought you guys with G900H (Exynos variant) might want to try this out.

Stock min freqs (500 and 800MHz):
http://xdaforums.com/devdb/project/dl/?id=7080

Min 200MHz for A7 and A15 clusters - might have better battery life but it will be less smooth... maybe:
http://xdaforums.com/devdb/project/dl/?id=7081

Please let me know which version works better for you and I'll keep those min freqs as default.

Sources:
https://github.com/drakester/SM-G900H_Kernel

I have done a couple of things to improve battery life, but overall it's very minimally modified from stock.
See Github for changelogs and to behold the innards of my laughable attempt at getting a kernel running.

It also has a working implementation of Wolfson Control (thanks to AndreiLux!).

Hopefully I'll have enough time later to implement a robust Synapse-based control for it.

All credits of most things to:
@AndreiLux - A lot of help and guidance implementing Wolfson Control
@halaszk88
@Alberto96
@franciscofranco
@Christopher83 - toolchain

The only thing I have done is try and test applying their work into this device, my knowledge is very limited.
If you really want to donate, donate to them, not to me. It wouldn't exist without their effort.

Flash this under your own risk! It trips Knox counter!
Under no circumstances I'm responsable for any harm to your devices.

I'm not going to add stuff I don't want/need, before you ask for:

  • 5000 governors
  • 5000 i/o schedulers
  • CPU OC
I might add:
  • GPU OC

Changelog:
0.2:
Fixed updater script, this caused a silent error on flash.

Note: This kernel is based on NE2 firmware, it most likely will not boot in older versions.

The OP is the most mysterious and hidden part of xda, if you read all the way here you are awesome, congrats!

Maybe, someday when I have enough spare time... :silly: Unfortunately there's a lot to learn and very little time.

Thanks for reporting that, I double checked and found something wrong. A redownload/reflash is advised for everyone.
Updated both zips as the updater-script had an error with the target path, please try them now.

I swear I wasn't testing the placebo effect on you guys. :laugh: Honest mistake.

Didn't notice because I had the image flashed previously using flashify (way faster than going to recovery and flashing).
I only tested that the zips were functional and no errors were reported in recovery. But the error was silently dropped.

Cool Bro... I am running the lower cpu version and it is very smooth. If the battery turns out to be better this will be a excellent daily kernel. Thank you so much for helping us all out....:)

Maybe one day you will get free time and make a nice rom for this phone hahaha here is to hoping ;)

Maybe.... :cowboy:

Please let us know how it works for you. I want to see how both variants behave in different setups (apps, usage).

Thanks a lot.

Sorry. I'm thinking about whether I should buy a warranted G900H Octa or an exported set G906 with Snapdragon 805. I don't really care about the QHD vs FHD screen though. But from this thread, I want to ask the SoC Exynos 5422 uses the same cluster immigration like Note 3 S4 or the new HMP implementation like Exynos 5260 Hexa? Thanks.

Same as Hexa, new HMP.

They actually moved the kernel version to 3.10 to get it supported.

Thanks. I asked this because when I compare the GS5 G900H to Note 3 Neo with Aututu, the former didn't show a much better result, while it has 2 more cores and all of these cores running at a higher clock.

Benchmarks aren't all the story. Plus it really depends on who did the benchmark.

This device benches 36-38k on stock. I seriously doubt that the Note 3 neo gets that.

Edit according to GSM arena it gets 32k on a 720p screen, S5 is 1080p. There's no way you can compare them.

Read the OP. I'm not responsible for anything that happens to your device. It's your own responsibility. Welcome to xda. Sorry to be so blunt.
I tested both zips on the device coming from bone stock. Tim also flashed it and got no issues.

Both kernels aren't OC in any way that they could brick your device. You did something wrong or your recovery did so. I used PhilZ to test.

Might post instead what zip you flashed and also which custom recovery you had so we can help you instead of posting baseless accusations.
Have you flashed any mods or something else?

I tested this with stock rom, xposed, root and knox disabled by super su. The only thing that might come to mind is that somewhere knox is to blame.

How can this brick your phone. I have it running whole day and its awesome. Using the lower cpu version and getting excellent battery. I use my phone alot with my sport using endomondo for over 3 hours cycling with podkicker and I have 62% still. Its smooth too no lagg on the lower cpu. So you deff did something wrong. I use stock latest update wannam and exposed module all knox crap deleted and rom debloated. CWM recovery and no problems.

---------- Post added at 07:46 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:42 PM ----------

Sure will do so and post later :))

To the OP. I have no problems with the lower cpu kernel. Here is what i have found. Smooth and effecient. I used my phone with endomondo 3 hours with GPS and podkicker today and its evening here now. So far 9h26m with 60% battery left. 2h48min screen on time. There is no lagg with your kernal on the lower cpu as you thought so im happy with it. Want to see how long my battery will last. I use power saving mode as well and no stuttering.... Im happy :fingers-crossed:

Thanks. What I don't like about 200MHz min is that I'm seeing too much oscillation in the CPU frequencies, A7 cores ends up jumping to 1GHz more often than with 400 or 500MHz min, I'm going to experiment and maybe set it to 400...

    @drakester09 can you please post stock kernel flashable zip or odin tar file, in case we encounter some issues after flashing your kernel.
    For those who want to go back to stock. Thanks

    Stock NE2 attached, flashable with Odin.
    I haven't tested it but it should work.

    Reposting this here for attention.

    There are now two great Roms available for the G900H in the Android development forum.

    A stock cleaned up, rooted, deodex or odex by Alvin.
    http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=2791067

    A slimmed, de bloated one by Edgar. With an add-on pack.
    http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=2732110

    Both work wonderfully. I'd say Edgar's is everything that Shohat always wanted to be and never was. :laugh:

    Shower them with thanks please, they deserve them for supporting this device.

    Great work mate, always need more devs for G900H.

    Will test it out soon.
