Lenovo K860

I've bought a Lenovo K860, it works fine in Spain. It comes with english and chinese languages. Easily root as you say before. Over 12400 antutu benchmark in my device, but I see until 14500 in others. The camera works perfect and makes awesome photographies. Games and apps runs very fast, GTAIII, Bard`s Tale, PES12, FIFA12, Asphalt 7....

Cons?
Magnetometer compatibility, by the time I don`t found compass app working.

Only chinese development by the moment. In fact there is a recovery.img available and two or three MIUI roms, aal in chinese only:crying:

If you want any other info, contact me, and sorry my bad english.

Hola Superbienator,

Like you I live in Spain too and I´ve just bought the Lenovo K860 on a Chinese website (Etotalk).
They said they´d send it to me rooted and with a custom multilanguage MOD ROM installed including Spanish.
After a few days of e-mails (have to admit the comunication is very good) they now say the phone can be rooted and have Google Play installed, but they are not able to install Android in Spanish, only in English.
The thing is I speak English, but for my wife it´s more complicated.
Furthermore you know that in Spanish we have the letter " ñ " which in English doesn´t exist.
My questions to you are various;
Are you able to put Spanish language in the phone?
Does the keypad have the option to use the " ñ " ?
Is it possible to upgrade the phone from the fabrics installed Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich to the new 4.1 Jelly Bean?
Hope you can help me here.

Because I recently bought the Lenovo K860 and am waiting to receive it, I did some research on how to root it.
I found some steps on a Chinese website.

What I understand form it is you have to do the following steps to root:

- Set the phone to USB debugging in the settings
- Make sure drivers are installed and the phone is recognized well by the default phone PC software
- Close all the PC phone software applications
- Make sure no other android or smart/USB-device is connected except for the phone itself.
- Download this file: root files
- Unzip it and launch the .exe (executable file) with the Chinese characters (should be first .exe in directory). Launch it with Administrator privileges.
- The shell should start the root process.
- The phone will automatically restart, don't touch it or any button, don't interrupt the shell program!!
- Now after the reboot you should press a key.
- The shell program should continue, the phone will restart again!
- Again press a key to continue and wait for the shell program to reboot your phone for the third time (this can take some time).
- When rebooted the "Operation was successful" message should appear in the shell program.
- Now your K860 is rooted! Look for the root app in your phone to confirm. If rooting didn't work, try this process again.

I want to note that I'm not responsible for any bricked phone by using this root process! I didn't do it myself yet, so it's all at your own risk!
Also backup all data before rooting the phone!

Because I don't have this phone at the moment I can't try to root it just yet. So if anyone got it rooted using this method, let me know!

does this phone supports other Custome ROMS.. :confused:

Hi, by the time there`s no way to put spanish in the phone. But don`t worry about the ñ, it's on the keyboard.
The root is very easy to do with TSparkyroot, just one click. I tell you that because if Etotalk want`s you pay for it, if you want I`ll tell you method.
There are few roms of 4.1 and also a 4.1.2 but only chinesse, and a overseas 4.1 rom in english, anyway the recovery mode is only in chinesse by the time. I'll recommend you wait for a english recovery, be pattient, and wait for a MIUI release. I think is question of time.
Anyway, the OS is based in MIUI as far I can see, is fast as hell and a beast playing apps and games.
Good purchase, enjoy it, and if you want more info, here I am.

Sorry my very very bad english, I don't talk in spanish for respect the others, if you want contact me and make a minispanishforum, send me a private. BYE!!!!

Ok, first of all, are you rooted?

If yes, you must put the gapps apk (all of them, gmail.apk, vending.apk, market.apk...) in /system/app and change the permissions to the same as the other apps have. I mean: Read= Owner,group, others Write=Owner Execute=None

If you want explain in spanish, send me a private.

Google Play for Lenovo K860

I think yes, you must download gmail.apk, play store, maps.apk, etc, second you must copy and paste with root explorer in/system, and at last open the permissions of any lenovo apk in /system and put the same permissions in google apks.

I hope you understand my bad english.

Hey guys, first of all I want to say thanks for all your posts helping people to use K860.

I've already rooted the phone according to your instructions, but I dont understand how to run Google Play. Could you explain a little steps how to do it? I apologize for my ignorance, but i had before a Nokia 3100 and now this Lenovo it's a really high jump...help please. Also, Im from Spain (BJ living now). Thanks for all,

Carlos

I know that many android devices show less RAM in the system then on the specification list. Like my Galaxy Mini, which shows 280MB instead of the 384MB it should have. But I guess this has to do with the fact that some RAM is used for the OS by default and maybe some hardware resources or I/O.
Some phones have more left, others don't have that much.

Btw, my K860 order was a scam, luckily got my money back. But I bought another phone now, so won't be able to give any, experience related, support for this device.

Also for all the people here that asked for custom ROM's or how to add the Google Apps, please read this topic from the beginning, there are already several posts explaining how to solve these things. Thanks!

http://translate.googleusercontent....146322&usg=ALkJrhjf-SK51GJHJHc80ckLGOW5sLeksw
Click on the right White button to download. Extract password: bbs.lenovomobile.com
Full Market, stable but with limited language support.

2. AOKP ROM with minor bugs (ear plug not working, sudden reboot) :
http://pan.baidu.com/share/link?shareid=128376&uk=3910139059
with more Language support. Nice ROM but still not very stable.

3. CM10 ROM with minor bugs (volume need to activate once, Gravity sensor not working).
http://pan.baidu.com/share/link?shareid=122477&uk=3910139059
with more Language support. Nice ROM but still not very stable.

Update Method:
1. Create a new Directory name: /sdfuse in your SD card;
2. Copy ROM with .szb extension to the new directory (keep only one file in the directory);
3. Press Power+VolumeUp button together until Menu appear;
4. Using Volume buttons to scroll to "SD update" and select using Power button;
5. Just wait till it complete and reboot (be patient). DONE!

Caution: If there is error message("fail bootloader") , re-format your SD card with FAT32, 16K cluster for a 16G card and re-try again or change a new SD card.
Back Up before Falshing. Internal memory may be deleted. Do it at your own risk!

    USSD CODE Fix for Native Chinese JB ROMs

    Hi all, for all of you using Chinese native JB ROMs on your K860 or maybe also for K860i (I only have K860, thus can't do any testing), I have found a way to fix problem with USSD code not working. The solusion is pretty simple, you just need to replace the RIL (Radio Interface Layer) Library and Bin executable files using that of working ROM (in which obvious are only from ICS ROW ROM). I have tested it myself and it simply works so far.

    Files to be copied (replacing existing files) and their respective folder in your phone are:
    librapid-ril-core.so --> copy to "system\lib"
    librapid-ril-util.so --> copy to "system\lib"
    libreference-ril-so --> copy to "system\lib"
    libril.so --> copy to "system\lib"
    rild --> copy to "system\bin"
    Use any of your favorite Root Explorers and don't forget to change back permission of copied files as shown, then REBOOT your phone

    To keep it simple, I attached the extracted library and executable files (it's in rar, extract them first!); files' permission setting; and a screenshot of me running balance check USSD code on Lidroid 4.4

    Hope It Helps :angel:

    Custom ROM K860

    Updated my custom ROM to version 2.03, and sharing it just in case someone else outside my local forum is interested:
    THIS IS FOR K860 not sure if it's working for K860i (although i'm using K860i kernel source code)
    Features:
    - Working USSD and Market fix.
    - Base ROM: Latest 130424 Jelly Bean 4.1.2.
    - Swap uboot.bin from other version, (130424 uboot.bin broken recovery option through boot loader menu A)
    - Custom made kernel, modded & compiled from K860i JB source code.
    - Add i/o schedulers: ROW, SIO, & V(R).
    - Default i/o scheduler set to ROW instead of CFQ (standar stock K860).
    - Busybox installed.
    - Root-ed, Superuser manager using Koush's (creator of Clockworkmod), all credits goes to him.
    - Init.d support.
    - Playstore compatibility and USSD fix.
    - GApps (Google Apps) for JB 4.1.2 included, using package from Formula84
    - Apex launcher.
    - Set default language to English
    - Lots of Ringtones.
    - Added Cootek TouchPal keyboard.
    - Lenovo's app debloated
    - 4 way reboot, thanks to Kahvitahra of XDA-Developers.
    - Changes from my v2.02: some build.prop tweak for less UI glitch, Themed UI - BLACK - Quick Setting Toggler button from JB 4.2

    Tweaks:
    - Default governor (pegasusq) tweaks for more responsive CPU.
    - GPU rendering for UI (may cause small glitch).
    - Tweaks for better battery life (sleep mode; disable normalize and new fair sleeper;dll).
    - Low memory killer (Minfree) tweaks.
    - Increase eMMC readahead buffer size.
    - Some minor VM tweaks for better performance.
    - Navbar size set to 25dpi (default 40dpi).
    - SQLite database and auto Zipalign optimized (set on timely event, not at every boot).
    - GPS localized (to Asia, mind you...for other region should tweak GPS.conf file)

    Not Working:
    - Google Chrome browser (due to surface_flinger service been disabled by default, if enabled through init boot chrome will work but also cause off-power battery charging error).

    Bugfix:
    - How to set Alarm: go to clock, add alarm, set ringtone first prior to checking the "turn alarm on checkbox", original ringtones were removed due to chinese filenaming, therefore setting alarm by directly checking the turn alarm on checkbox will cause FC.

    Disclaimer and notes:
    - As always DIYOR (Do It on Your Own Risk)...
    - Warranty Void.
    - DO NOT OTA UPDATE.
    - This ROM does not erase current data and apps, therefore wiping data and cache prior to flashing is recommended especially when upgrading from ICS, failure to do so will often lead to app FC. Restoring apps using any backup application should also restore apps only not apps+data.

    Download link:
    Warning: this is my local file-sharing, contains lots of a*d*f*l*y banner and those are not my doing, i'm taking no advantage of my sharing.
    Please set language to english just in case.

    I've successfully built CWM recovery in English for the K860. My sources are here: https://github.com/angelsl/cm-android_device_lenovo_stuttgart

    Rename the attached zip to update.zip and place it in /sdcard, and then install it using the stock recovery. You can also extract the recovery.img from the zip and flash it using fastboot.

    Some intentional debloating (If you wish to use those features):
    - I had removed liblenovo_liveeffect_library.so from /system/lib/ as it was around 8 mb. It was necessary to have all latest google apps in system partition. It's used for special effects through the magic wand icon in the bundled camera app. If you wish to have those effects, extract this file into /system/lib with permissions rw-r--r--
    - Of course if there's not enough space on system partition for that file, Replace the autorun.iso in /system/media/ with the one attached, it will save you around 10-11mb in the system parition as it contains LeDrivers.msi (also attached), which you can keep instead in SD card (All files attached)
    - There's also an issue with adding APNs in some regions (which is an issue with chinese ROMs in general). To be able to add APNs, replace the attached telephony.db into /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases with permissions rw-rw-rw-

    You are welcome.
