The MSM8974(Snap800) is capable of running every core up to 2.3GHz btw....as well as the Adreno 330 gpu which is supposed to offer 50% graphics improvement & double the compute performance over the 320...I believe it can handle 4k hd encode/decoding even...

It is an APQ that has integrated radios and has taken most other aspects of the current APQ and stepped it up. Also is manufactured using a new process which is supposed to help on power at peak clocks,...still 28nm but they are using HPm I believe...

The integrated radio part alone is a decent deal...anandtech will have the best comparison write up on SoCs

they might call it the dna + or something, but its clearly just going to be a m7 variant, much like sprint called their one x the evo 4g lte

i bet it launches much later than the intl m7 as well, possibly april-ish

My thoughts exactly.

This is the exact reason HTC are struggling. These big American brands think their brand is more important than HTC's. They force HTC to sell under some other name, hence forcing them into a situation where they cannot market their brand or phone effectively.

The M7 was supposed to be marketed under one umbrella brand throughout the world & Verizon have fecked that up for them. Now their customers will be confused and they will lose out on sales.

If this story is true then Verizon are bullies and HTC should have refused to sell them the phone unless it carried their branding.

I've found CNET to be wrong before on occasion, and I hope they are wrong this time. Even Verizon would be unusually stupid to slap the "DNA+" brand on this so soon after the original DNA release (unless maybe Big Red were to cram a bigger battery in it and call it the Droid DNA MAXX - then it would just be its normal level of stupidity).

well htc is kinda screwed both ways

samsung can say take it or leave it to verizon with rebranding their devices because its always assumed now, that anything they launch will be a huge success and verizon doesnt want to miss that boat (though they did cater to verizon with "locked" bootloaders on gs3/note2)

htc seems to want to bend over backwards to sell any devices they can, and if verizon makes a request for something, they ll do anything they can to accommodate it....but in doing this, they further erode sales and brand recognition, so it only gets worse

if htc had stuck to their "plan" with the one series, i think they d have been more successful in 2012....they should have only launched 3 phones in the first world (i know super cheap phones in south america, asia are big to the bottom line, so im excluding those areas for the sake of this argument) : the one x, one s, and one v

i think you could still let carriers have somewhat customized versions (evo lte was a huge seller for sprint) but keep the launches on the same dates and dont lessen the device experience for an individual carrier (heck the evo lte is better than the one x cuz of the sdcard...and well maybe the kick stand if thats your thing)

then like samsung, when you release the next thing 8-10 months later, its simply the one x2, one s2, one v2 like the gs line for samsung

easy to recognize, and doesnt cannablize sales from their own lines unlike the one sv, one vx, desire c, desire x, and the 10 other htc low-to mid range devices launched recently

hopefully the m7 is a huge success for htc, and hopefully verizon's version is a distinct offering, that doesnt muddle the line w/ the dna by trying to call it the dna+ (when you ll have customers in store confused and possibly even arguing that a smaller screen cant be a better phone)

Hahaha good one. I'm pretty sure the DNA isn't going to get any updates from Verizon and they are going to move on to M7.
Verizon really does seem like a bully because of their vast coverage making them one of the only options...They also own a big part of the market already so carries can't really afford to say no to them unless you are Samsung or Apple..or Google. haha

if htc had stuck to their "plan" with the one series, i think they d have been more successful in 2012.

They tried for the most part. The only deviation in the U.S. was the One XL on AT&T but to the outside world it was just a One X with LTE. So with the four "Ones" HTC continued to lose a significant amount of market share. The Teg3 One X had a ton of early h/w QC issues and s/w problems which became prominent publically just as the SGS3 was available for sale. I don't think anyone would question that the One X's display was better than the SGS3's. I bought one because of it. You have to wonder though if the One X(s) had 32GB of storage and/or a microSD slot and 2,100mAh batteries would things have been any different? If the answer is "no" and specs and QC weren't holding HTC back in 2012 one has to wonder what's going to be different in 2013? HTC's already guided down for Q1 so they don't expect anything to turn around in the short term. No matter what any of us think individually HTC needs to figure out how to regain market share whether it's with high-end devices or pushing bargain smartphones in emerging markets. They are running out of time.

P.S. - I know the EVO LTE on Sprint was a One X mutant but their 1/3 the size of AT&T where a "real" One X was offered and Sprint is selling LTE phones with 1MB download speeds until they get their LTE network lit. So even if they sold an unmolested One XL I don't think the volume sold would have been any different.

I think HTC needs to bring back the trackball a la the Nexus One :cyclops: I mean what consumer doesn't want disco ball notification lights (just kidding of course).

Who knows what drives the masses? Maybe a disco ball notification light could become a "must have" feature. ;) I'm kind of excited to see how well the M7 performs. It addresses the battery and storage size debates so unless the SGS4 has a 3,000maAh battery its specs will be competitive. If HTC's tri-sensor camera works as well as it sounds on paper and whatever they're doing with audio is more than Beats bass boost they stand a chance of winning "best new Android device." Especially if the 1080P display is significantly better than other 1080P displays. But as we've seen before both with HTC and others the PR bubble machine can sometimes get ahead of reality.

Samsung makes good ads, while Htc ads are crap and don't attract customers.

To people who no nothing about android, by just seeing the ads Samsung is the clear winner

I do see Samsung ads a lot more often than I see HTC ads, however, I'm not sure if all of Samsung ads are "good." Frankly, I think all the HTC ads suck, the only one I can recall of the top of my head is all the DNA ads by Verizon and they make the phone try to be something its not, but don't really talk about the product.

Some new Samsung ads are good, like the SBeam homemade porn one. I laughed, that's good. But the new ones about security, business, and the one with Seth Rogan, Paul Rudd, Lebron James, and Saul from Breaking Bad are just long and drawn out, they don't seem to go anywhere.

It is all about that advertising. Everyone expect things that come out of Samsung or Apple to be awesome...and even if there is something else better, they are going to go with one of those cause they've seen it on ads so much.

I think HTC sales clearly show how Sense has been doing.....If you think it isn't considering a big change, talk to their financial officer and they'll state otherwise.
Don't be surprised when they try and unify the UI across all their "current" devices. Why would they waste resources maintaining multiple versions at once? They already have a hard enough time with that, lol.

Why does everyone bring sense down so much? Its significantly better and polished and better looking than touch wiz... The thing bringing them down is their choices and marketing ..like I don't know how many people crave the new HTC device than they see no SD card or removable battery that's what bringing HTC down not sense and their marketing tactics
