Same issue, no USB connection

SO I am also a total noob on rooting topics. My a500 hung while surfing the internet. Full freeze only option was to turn off tablet. Now I'm in a boot cycle with no end in sight. I have tried:

-Hard reset with pin on side, no joy
-Hard reset with key combo, no joy. Still boot cycles

The unit also is not recognized by my PC even after installing drivers from Acer.

So is my only option to keep downloading update.zip files and hope one is compatible? I don't konw anything about FastBoot and being that the device won't recognize on the PC I'm really boned, right?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Yesterday my A500 freezes!
Had to force a shutdown, at start got stuck on Acer logo! :(
Tried the 4 updates on this post thread everyone talked about with no luck!

A few minutes ago tried the only one that solved my problem: The original 3.x Honeycomb:
ROM: SD_Acer_A501_Android 3.2.1_4.066.29_COM_GEN1

That Solved! :)
Now I will try to update to ICS.
Thanks,
PereiraMan.

Now I can not even load stock recovery (vol-+ power), only power light turns on and off as i press power. No vibrate, no acer logo only a black screen!! :crying:

Can anyone help? Ideias?

update

:fingers-crossed:

For the record it seams that my A500 is in APX mode.

After using a fresh install of Windows 7 with th Acer drivers, the fantastic OTA Tool: http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=1675939
Detected my A500 as in APX mode, and has an advanced feature specific for those like I stuck on APX mode that let's us Install Bootloader and Recovery. :)

First try didn't work: I downloaded and tried to install TWRP recovery and ICS Bootloader, it was stuck on FASE 2 (flashing recovery).

Will try this night with A500_Thor_Recovery_1.7.3.a500apx. :fingers-crossed:

Thanks,
PereiraMan.

No luck yet

Not giving up... no yet! :(

On the Windows Device Manager it detects tha A500 like "Acer USB Boot-recovery Driver"
The other night a think it was different, something like APX...
Any way in the system tray on the USB devices always shows APX device.

APX Tool and OTA Tool detect the A500 in APX mode, but none of them can flash a recovery... Windows Drivers issue? :(
Because ADB via command prompt doesn't detect the device! :(
The tools use ADB commands, right? And ADB shoud detect the device in APX mode, right?

Any APX expert? :(

More info:
in the driver details I have this values: "USB\VID_0955&PID_7820\5&24FD8A70&0&1"
Read somewhere the last digits are the CPUID... calculated the SBK. Hope is correct.

Thanks,
PereiraMan.

update for rooted a5001

So for Stock A500 users stuck at the Acer Logo, or maybe some other strange issue with the tablet not booting, you may want to try this method first before rolling up your sleeves and moving on to getting your UID, which involves the use of Linux for the most part.

Download these full ICS Update files for the A500 (501 owners can try this also, but you'll have a 500, but that might can be changed later)

These files are already "decrypted" and are named differently as to keep them separate. Download them all to a folder.

Now, select one of them, rename it to "update" (end result is a file called update.zip) copy it to SD card, boot tab and see if it installs. If it hangs on the install, delete it from SD card, and do the same with the next. Hopefully one of them might take. You may have to try all 4 of them before one works. It's hit and miss.

Hope this gets you going.

MD

Moscow, what about any full update.zip for a rooted a500 stuck on ACER logo.

I have tried all 4 files as update but it just boots to TWRP 2.1.3 and when I check the log it says unknown volume for path [SDCARD:update.zip]
When I try to load them manually it look likes it works but still wont boot

Hoping someone can help me out here. Having the same issue of the device stuck on the ACER logo. I've tried to use the decrypted files to flash but once I get to the android recovery system, it spins with no progress bar then it goes right to the exclamation point with the android lying down.

Can someone point me to what I can do at this point?

On my A500: 124 won't start, 123 & 203 load about 25% then won't go further, 206 loads to about 90% and stays there...
Thanks for the effort, wish it worked... :(

I was following instructions to do a custom rom on my A500 tablet. I got it rooted and got the V9 bootloader installed. I was in the process of doing the CWM to update to the OMNI 4.4.4 rom.
Now, the screen doesn't come on and the safely remove hardware has an Acer Picasso USB boot-recovery driver.

I've tried putting the zips on the op as required and pressing the volume button+power for 3 seconds. I hear the tablet come on via the usb sound on my laptop, but there's nothing happening on the screen at all.

When I try to put the tablet in the APX mode nothing changes on the tablet or how it shows up in my device manager. I've even tried reinstalling the device drivers.

{update}
I left the tablet charging all night to see if that might have been a problem.
The tablet's power button was showing fully charged.
When I tried to put it into APX mode the light is showing white and it still shows up as that "Acer Picasso USB boot-recovery driver. "
I did notice after the power button was lit white that if I press the reset button that light turns off for about 2 seconds and comes back on. but that's the only life it shows.

Tried the 4 update files. No go.

The update goes to around 90% and then stops.

With other ROM's, the Android falls on its side with an exclamation point. With these Android stays upright with the spinning hexagons. I waited for over an hour. Retried. etc. Same result.

Before its death, my A500 was on stock, unrooted ROM.

Please help!

I've tried the various updates and out of all of them one seems it has a potential to work.
The 41-124-01 update is the only one that does something.
My only problem is that it starts to load, and I get a progress bar BUT it hangs and stays at about 90% .
Any suggestions?
I appreciate the help and replies.

Hello
I've tried the 4 updates , and 2/4 seems to be work , but they hang at 90-95% and the ball in the android's belly keeps spinning ?
any suggestions please ?

A501 problem

Hey mates,
I have lost all my nerves with a501, friend gave it to me to fix it (it was stuck at boot-he did not brick it), I said no problem, i gathered CPUID and SBK,
flashed skrilax bootloader and cwm recovery, and started flashing roms via update.zip files,
i tried 10 roms but no luck, only one was succesfull but at boot it asked me for password, i do not know what kind of password is that (tablet wasnt locked with any kind of passwords)
other ones install just fine, but after reboot its stuck at bootloader saying that kernel image is invalid.
I tried also .apx installation and was not sucessfull - it opens cmd windows and it doesnt anything.
any help would be appreciated

Hey Moscow, you wouldn't happen to to have a stock recovery image floating around would you? I have an A501 I am attempting to return to stock and I have downloaded so many this and that's that I cannot flash using Thors recovery. or CWM 6 from the android dev section here. Any help would be appreciated. I miss my tablet.

Hey Mate, unfortunately I don't have a stock ICS recovery laying around. And My old 501 won't update to ICS (stuck on 3.2.1) (I had to use the oven method to get it to that)

You should be able to install a full update.zip via CWM though. Strange. Are you pulling the "update.zip" out of the original package? Remember, on the 501, I believe it was a "patch" update, so if you don't have the matching 3.2.1 installed, it won't work.

However, If it's a full ICS ROM, then most likely you can remover the "asserts" from the installer script.

Basically you must get back on the 3.2.1, then run the matching update (at Acer.com) Unfortunately Acer doesn't have the 3.2.1's for download (google usually finds them). I have a couple of 2 or 3 here on my own storage though.

I was thinking Blackthunders tool, or After OTA, had the option to install a stock recovery, but has been too long to remember. Also, doesn't the Acer Recovery Installer (Market) give the option as well?

Oh, and DO NOT BUY an Acer A70x. Pure junk IMO. I finally sucked it up and bought a new Sony Z2 tablet.

Let me know what you need, but check the acer recovery installer.
