There is a wow factor here. The screen on the GG is a vibrant, bright, high resolution AMOLED beauty! Everything flows nicely and works pretty much without a hitch. I am impressed with the apps included but I downloaded quite a few more, and then side loaded a handful of useful apps like QuikPic and a file manager and a couple of games. They all work just like they do on a phone. (no root reqd) The screen is super sensitive and accurate.
The camera isn't too bad at all, even in lowish light. I was actually suprised how much better it is than I expected. Video again is good for a quick shot.
It pairs instantly with the Note on each BT toggle, I have a good range of clock faces (or create your own), S-Voice works pretty good and finally making/receiving calls is flawless. I actually mimick holding a phone to my ear and it then looks completely natural as I use the watch to speak. I wouldn't use that feature on a long call but it's handy on the short ones.
My only gripe is that there are no map apps out there... yet. But there seems to be some healthy development for the device. I also worry what happens if the strap needs replacing and there are 'maybe' issues with it not being waterproof. I worry that the screen and casing may damage easily but that goes for the SW2 also.
Comparing it to the SW2, I think the build quality is far greater, the screen is way better, interaction is smoother and more logical and you have those camera and calling features!
It cost me £250 but I have seen watches for more - that do less and frankly look dull. So I am happy with that. OK It only works witrh a couple of devices, I am on a 2 yr contract with the Note 3 and VERY happy with that phone so that's not an issue either. By then another incarnation will be available I am sure.
So I believe you really need to see these 2 side by side to really assess which you prefer but for me the GG wins by a clear mile.
thoroughly agreed with you on the look and feel of gear over sw2. it is definitely a class above.
and sw2 does not have a mic nor a speaker. it can only vibrate.
however, as the objective of my companion watch is to provide notifications and not to replace the phone, my sw2 is still my daily wear due to the number of smart extensions available that have cater to almost all my needs (short of a wechat smart extension).
oh...and also because i can exercise and shower with it.
i am keeping my gear for development and testing fun at the moment until more software are been rolled out.
