I am still confused because I see a lot of Guides for S-OFF people but a lot of misinformation for people (like me) with S-ON.

My only question is:

for people with original Gingerbread + S-ON + HTC UNLOCKED hboot + 4ext, how can we update to ICS + root it + use afterwards 4ext? :p

I was not able to do it. I got stuck at the last step (flashing ICS firmware). I read here some users were able to do it (wit S-ON Evo 3D). The guide applies to S-OFF smartphones.

Folowed this. After the fisrt boot, I am getting lot of errors regarding various applications (System UI, messages etc) that stopped working and it asks if I want to nofity HTC. If I hit no, the same error pop up again. If I hit tell HTC, it gives another error that process tell htc stopped working. Tried the update method twice and still the same error. So reverting back to custom ICS rom. :silly:
Anyone? It won't even load the UI. The only thing that works is the keypad to enter the PIN. But even there, the screen does not have the right shape.

I want to update to ics on my dads evo 3d, i had previously s-off and unlocked and rooted for him so will use the method mentioned for s-off, my question though is his phone hasn't been updated to the latest GB ota rom (if i search for ota update i see a gb update) do i have to do this first before ics? can i update the GB one ota and keep unlocked and s-off or do i need to use a similar method? (i don't want to use htcdev to unlock because i want to keep warranty)

Thanks

I have a totally untouched UK sim free model, I go to update in settings but it says no updates available. Will this change over the next weeks? Or do I just follow the first post, I am not intending on using it rooted etc.

Hi Guys, how is the battery life on ICS? It's one of the main reasons I was planning to sell mine very soon... any improvement?

    How to update to OTA without updating hboot
    Instruction for S_OFF 4EXT RECOVERY : (Thanks anryl)
    1. . Download and copy modified OTA to sdcard.
      S_OFF_4EXT_RECOVERY_OTA_SHOOTER_U_ICS_35_S_HTC_Europe_3.28.401.1-1.20.401.8_release_2627623qpt0ma8rnwgn0qq.zip
      274.43 MB
    2. . Download and copy firmware as PG86IMG.zip to sdcard. PG86IMG.zip 17.70 MB
    3. . From 4ext recovery install the modified OTA
    4. . Go to bootloader and install firmware
    BOOT INTO THE NEW UNROOTED OTA ICS
    (with new radio old recovery old hboot)

    now flash root.zip and that's all folks

    ===FOR EVERYONE WHO GETS STATUS 7 or 6 like: === (Thanks crystalic)

    assert(check_cid(getprop("ro.cid"), "00000000" , "11111111" ,
    "22222222" , "33333333" , "44444444" , "55555555" , "66666666" ,
    "77777777" , "88888888" , "99999999" , "HTC__001" , "HTC__102" ,
    "HTC__E11" , "HTC__203" , "HTC__032" , "HTC__304" , "HTC__A07" ,
    "HTC__405" , "HTC__Y13" , "HTC__N34" ,
    "HTC__016") == "t");

    1. download 7zip (google it, free) and open up "S_OFF_4EXT_RECOVERY_OTA_SHOOTER_U_ICS_35_S_HTC_Eu rope_3.28.401.1-1.20.401.8_release_2627623qpt0ma8rnwgn0qq.zip" with 7zip, and go to

    META-INF/com/google/android/

    and extract "updater-script" to your desktop. Be sure it's not extracted as .TXT and DO NOT OPEN IT WITH NOTEPAD

    2. Download Notepad++ (google it, it's free) and open up the "updater-script" from the desktop.
    Comment out the lines, by putting # in front of them:

    #assert(check_cid(getprop("ro.cid"), "00000000" , "11111111" ,
    # "22222222" , "33333333" , "44444444" , "55555555" , "66666666" ,
    # "77777777" , "88888888" , "99999999" , "HTC__001" , "HTC__102" ,
    # "HTC__E11" , "HTC__203" , "HTC__032" , "HTC__304" , "HTC__A07" ,
    # "HTC__405" , "HTC__Y13" , "HTC__N34" ,
    # "HTC__016") == "t");

    3. then go to File=>Saves As=>Name: updater-scipt Type: All types (*.*)
    Now go back to your "META-INF/com/google/android/" in the 7zip and delete the existing "updater-script", and the put inside the new one from the desktop

    4. push the zip to your SD card now and install it from 4ext recovery (and don't forget to install firmware as described in the first post)

    ***NOTE: be sure to use 7zip and Notepad++ because they don't seem to corrupt the files by manipulating with them as classical Notepad does***

    IF u S-ON u could flash the latest GB RUU to revert back to stock then use the OTA but
    I would recommend to flash my Rom whilst with new hbooot u probably won't be able to flash any custom roms is ur choice.

    u all missing the first step u MUST HAVE LATEST GB ROM INSTALLED
    THE OTA is PATCH for GB ROM it will check all neded files then patch them
    afther patching it will copy new files thats it

    the name S_OFF_4EXT_RECOVERY_OTA_SHOOTER_U_ICS_35_S_HTC_Europe_3.28.401.1-1.20.401.8_release_2627623qpt0ma8rnwgn0qq.zip

    from 1.20.401.8 patch to 3.28.401.1
    3
    its still not confirmed..

    also possible that downgrade will be possible

    I confirm you that downgrading won't work.
    You know why? because they now also check the hboot version if the current one is lower than the one you flash. Downgrading misc partition will work but hboot won't. No chance for you. it's the same problem that the cmda peops had.

    Also to everyone who has root and s-off. Don't flash the official Update!
