;) thanks for sharing. Meanwhile, I recommend using my backup pro or similar app and copying it to PC or external storage.
Hopefully WW firmware is going to be available for download soon enough and then you could update from a zip file on microSD card.

Somehow, the previous botched OTA update to .22 disabled the OTA functionality altogether on my unit; when checking under Settings, my unit reported it was on .21 firmware, but an update check reported there were no updates available for my device. I downloaded the WW firmware file, put in on the root directory of the microSD card and flashed the entire hubbub . (I do find these stock recoveries lacking in both functionality (no backup facility) and ergonomics (first having to hit the power button while getting no hint, just seeing a dead Andy), but I managed. ;) )
I'm now running .22.

Just two small observations to reiterate for new readers:

1) The update made me lose root, although I had OTA Rootkeeper. Not a big deal, since just re-running the scripted DebugFS will reinstate root access. But....
2) After running DebugFS, install Superuser from the Play Store, and open it manually. You will not get the access prompts otherwise and the programs depending on it (like Titanium Backup, amongst others) will NOT function correctly, if at all.

I cannot say if the update has brought significant improvements so far. It's been too short to tell, and the main update seems to have in regard several fairly basic application updates (which I had performed previously via the Play Store anyway). Time will tell. Aloha, JB! :)

First time owner of a tablet or any Asus product

I bought the infinity in China and have the CN firmware - no Google products whatsoever.
Reading through the threads here i found the following was released on Asus website:

Firmware Update V9.4.5.22 for specific regions has been officially released:
JP - Japan
CN - China
US - United States
WW - Presuming for Europe region
TW - Taiwan

Any chance I can replace CN with US?

d14b0ll0s managed to flash the TW firmware to his WW tablet when a script botched up his system partition.

Here is a link to his post detailing how he did it.

Right, I tried this and discussed it further with d14b0ll0s. I just couldn't get it to work.
I already have the .22 CN version pre-installed. I tried WW, US and TW but none would work. Once I enter recovery it just can't find the update files.
It's irritating me that I can't use any of the Google apps including the Play Store, and the rest of the apps I have are mostly in Chinese.

If anyone has an idea, I'd love to hear it.

It's hard to tell as I've tried experiencing with it a bit myself, but I would probably go with one at a time if all together won't work. Try reformatting the card FAT32.

Hello ...

download the update file (TW or WW or whatever you want) from the ASUS download page.
You have to decompress the ZIP File. Then you have the actual update ZIP file (TW_epad-user-9.4.5.22.zip or WW_epad-user-9.4.5.22.zip).
You have to rename the File to "EP201_768_SDUPDATE.zip" (Important: write big!) and copy the File to the root of a FAT32 formated microSD Card and insert the same into your Tab.
Now, reboot into recovery and the update install will begin without any verification of Software Version. After the update, your Data and Programms are still there.
I had installed the WW Version on a TW and it runs perfect.

I hope i understand your problem correct and could help you ... and sorry for my bad English.

Greetings Andy

Well done. Have you noticed any differences after flashing WW apart from lack of built-in Chinese keyboard?

Edit: So I'm flashing WW myself at the moment. Will post the results. Didn't work with exFAT, so in fact it has to be FAT32.

Worked like a charm, seems you were right with both the filename and the fact of not losing any data, thanks!

Edit: ...only that I lost root and su copy made by RootKeeper.

Yup, the WW firmware erases them. As you've probably found out by now anyway, the DebugFS method (either by hand or automated) still works in gaining root access.

It did, but let's hope we can say the same when we get the JB update. On the other hand, shouldn't be much of a problem as we're most probably getting the unlocking tool and custom ROMs first.

Did anyone get prompted by a dock firmware update? I accepted -- O, sweet joy of stock ROMs -- but the dock still reports itself as the TF201 dock (obviously) running firmware #0207, the same as before.

Do you need to be docked to get this prompt?

WELL, I think I finally got it working :) Thanks to you 2 guys' guidance.
Andy, this write-up of yours was great, thank you, although it didn't exactly work at first.
I went and renamed the file "EP201_768_SDUPDATE.zip". I'm using Windows, so I only had to rename it "EP201_768_SDUPDATE".
Anyways, this really got me scratching my head :p
I'm watching the progress bar fill up now.

Thanks a lot guys :D

Hello ...

I am glad that I could help you.
I also have Windows. But if you have displayed the known file extensions in Explorer settings, you have to enter the ZIP extension too, when renaming the file.

Also have fun with your Tab ...

Greetings Andy

I'm using it as a book (= pdf reader) and notes/e-mail machine mostly, so I dock it mainly to charge or do some cool shell geeky stuff, but I'm on sort of summer holiday (if there is sth like that when doing PhD), so it will probably change soon enough.
I've just tried rushing it to check for the OTA updates after docking, but it shows none.

The Tenth update for the Infinity is out 29/05 Version 10.6.1.14.8-20130514 4.2.1 :good: (Versions can be downloaded from the link)

    Release Notes to follow

Direct Link for Download (link now live)

    http://www.asus.com/Tablets_Mobile/ASUS_Transformer_Pad_Infinity_TF700T/#support

    ****************

To Install the download file follow bellow.

Unzip the initial file you have downloaded. It will unzip into another .zip file actually.
Now copy that zip file to a microsd card's root, and insert the card into your tablet.
You will see a notification icon in the taskbar that there is an update detected, click that notification and it will update your tablet

    *****************

    Alternative Firmware update Method

    1. Decompress downloaded .zip file (it will be another .zip)
    2. Rename it to EP201_768_SDUPDATE.zip
    3. Format FAT32 the MicroSD card that you will be using for the update process
    4. Copy the file to (the root directory of) your MicroSD
    5. Insert it into the tablet
    6. Shutdown (power off) the tablet
    7. Power it on by pressing and holding VOLUME DOWN and POWER buttons simultaneously
    8. When you see white text in the top left corner of the screen, release the buttons ^^ and press VOLUME UP button until you see Android logo and process bar
    9. Wait patiently for 10 minutes or so
    10. Enjoy!

Also remember that you will probably need to use RootKeeper to regain root privileges and reinstall BusyBox too (firmware update changes the /system partition).

    Thankyou to d14b0ll0s

Is it just me wondering this, or why are they releasing a firmware update that updates Google apps?

Isn't that what the Play Store is for?

The only thing I'm looking forward to is getting Jelly Bean eventually :)

Agreed. I wish it didn't include G+ at all really. No intentions of using it.

You can however disable built-in apps!
    - go to control-panel/apps
    - select all
    - uninstall any updates for the app you hate/want to remove
    - now that app is clean/original you can click "disable"

App should now not be listed anymore and playstore will no longer search for updates on it (or atleast should not).
