Passion v13 + Kissed kernel = GPS Good
I had been using Passion since v6 or so, and had lost GPS nearly completely since leaving Bionix V. I say nearly, because on v8 or v9 I had GPS one time after boot, but never after disabling GPS or Sleep, otherwise absolutely no GPS.
I had tried multiple suggested Angry GPS fixes as well as Faster Fix settings and running GPS Test outdoors for several (>5) minutes at a time. I had not tried other kernels until Kissed 2.2 on Passion v13. I have the antenna fix, no solder, just the spring pry method. Re-did the pry up on Passion v11 in hopes of GPS working as it did for so many.
I can now confirm that with the Kissed kernel 2.2 on v13 RC1 my GPS is 100% working. I have quite a bit of trouble getting GPS inside my house still (I used to get moderate locks indoors on various TW ROMs). Outside and in car though, it's a great lock within about 90 seconds from Cold Start.
I am getting the unlock lag others have mentioned. Haven't messed with the fixes proposed yet.
I have a Vibrant hardware v10.9.
I think it would be a good idea if people would start listing their hardware version with any GPS related issues so maybe the devs can start to figure out why GPS is so schizophrenic from one Vibrant to another. It would also help establish a baseline of which hardware revisions seem to work fine on certain ROMS without significant modification of the ROM itself (kernels, hacks, 3rd party apps). Might be time for a new thread so people can spit out their hardware, ROM, and various hacks so patterns can be recognized.
I'd like to try out Eugene373's kernel for Passion v10.5, as I am interested in the 65 fps refresh limit, but the links all seem dead at the moment.
With the governor set for 1200 MHz max, I'm getting +1600 cold on quadrant, and around 1990 after 2-3 runs. I know I used to get up around 2200-2400 on certain TW ROMs, but I acknowledge most of that was a RAM cache hack for the I/O benchmark of flash.
I'm also running the Epic 1800 mAH battery and it is a nice boost in battery life. Carrying 1-2 spare batteries still seems the best fix for poor battery life in the end. I can get by 14+ hours on a charge with >30% left if I am light on phone calls and little other usage. Heavy web browsing brings it down to 0 in just a handful of hours (figuring 2 hours idle + 2-3 hours solid browsing on Wifi).
