Well, I managed to build it, but it is not booting yet. New image is just uploading to the tablet, let's see.

OK, it boots and I can get into ubuntu via adb. But the screen stays black...
So now I am off to dig in deeper.

It says that is needed 2gb ram, but tf300t has only 1

Nexus 7 only has 1GB RAM and its a officially supported tablet.

according to the updated porting guide it's “sort of working"...any one tried?

I believe that the supported devices will increase, it's just a matter of time. Until then I'll stick to old faithful android

Actually they said that you need at least 512 mb ram and single core cortex A9 1 GHz. At least that's what I read on their website.
