Hi,
Where can I find a guide to use Odin for SGH-i897 bricked? Is this the proper tool to use with a bricked phone? I bought it bricked, cheap because it may just be a paperweight. No screen activity at all. I was told that it died during an upgrade attempt likely by another newbie such as myself. I can get it to show up in device manager as Samsung Modem, and Samsung composite device. I'm assuming Odin can somehow talk to the phone in this mode. I don't understand how to setup odin. I downloaded a firmware file UCKE3 and expanded it, but beyond that and loading the PIT file into odin, I'm unsure of the correct procedure. I looked at your guide, but don't have the requisite knowledge to know which guide is the right one for me or if this is the right tool.

Find the stock firmware for your phone. Fire up odin. Select pda and select the firmware you downloaded. If odin is communicating with the phone the top left com (I believe its com) will be colored in and the start button will be clickable. Click start and wait for it to finish. Its really very easy once you see it done once. Good luck

P's don't uncompress it unless it was zipped for the download

Hey, thanks much. I found the same information on my own, but I thank you for your reply nonetheless. I can now get into the phone through the incredibly nice, free MobilGo software from Wondershare. This confirms what one of the senior members here already told me and which me, the noobie who knows nothing, insisted wasn't true: The screen is dead. I have to assume the guy lied when he said the sreen died as a result of bricking. However, it is true that the phone absolutely did not respond on any USB ports when I first got it so somebody was doing something. Is there any possiblity of firmware causing the screen not to come on, but at the same time MobilGo shows a snapshot of the current state of the screen? I'm kind of doubting there's anymore I can do with firmware, but I'm open to suggestions. Since there are no cracks on the screen, I'm going to take the phone apart and look for hairline cracks somewhere... Regardless, the phone has played the role intended: Taught me a hell of a lot, especially doing all of this "blind" with no screen EDIT:Hah, surprise. The guy from Craigslist lied. Imagine that? Phone was not only bricked, but they ripped the ribbon cable off while apparently attempting to change out the screen. So, I have a phone that "works" but is blind. I'll hold on to it and see if I ever find a dead one with a good ribbon cable.

ODIN version should not matter, I always used the most up to date version on my Fascinate.
