If he was going to complain about developers doing what they want with their own free time, I'm not surprised he didn't think things through about where factory images come.
Newsflash: donations are voluntary contributions
. They are not the same as service fees
or commission payment. They carry no legal obligations. If you choose to donate to a dev to get a device, you're acknowledging in the act of donation that the dev is under no contract to support a device for any length of time.
It's very different from what you appear to be imagining, which is some bizarre situation where devs draw up contracts to do crowdfunded work and then breach some "agreement" they made with their users. If a carrier that you pay money for service stops providing services, they're legally liable for that. But if you donate money to a dev? Good luck getting anyone to give a hoot. Caveat emptor.
