Please, I cannot stress enough we leave such speculative opinion outside of this thread. We are doing our best to keep this option (which is the only one acceptable) fair and legal within the rules of XDA (where exposure and potential options would be present). This has not only been discussed here already, but is outside of the acceptable posts I requested in OP. This is clearly a dying option, so lets not ruin it before anything can be determined. The point of this cause is such that your "I bet" opinions have no bearing on the purpose - and only starts discussions that are inevitably against the rules.

Where would one go to learn about three methods used to exploit these devices? What should I read up on? I am a CompSci student who is very interested in learning to exploit android systems to achieve root. What should I do to learn? Thank you

We should create some sort of savings pool for pledges.. maybe a trusted mod can handle it and instead of everyone just saying to pledge. We all put some money in and whoever brings us the root gets the bounty!

I suppose the first place to start would be getting a unlocked phones aboot image and flashing it onto a locked phone. Qualcomm likes e fuses , is there by chance a wallpaper.bin or similar named filed? Also wonder if erasing a primary partition such as the boot image will put the phone into fastboot like some of qual devices..... Is there a developer discussion of this stuff somewhere?

I think it'd be nice if people who want to donate to this cause donate and the ones who have a long negative rant about how they don't agree with this just keep it moving.

I know everyone's entitled to their opinions though. Its just by now we all know that there are bounties... that's just how it works.

No need to have so many moderators having to police this thread.... keeping it clean and always reminding us that no money changes hands until a root method is confirmed.

Kind of takes away from what's really supposed to be happening. This is just my opinion of course! [emoji16] not trying to start anything

Put me down for $20.00... With each passing day I see something new that I'm missing with my S5 that was so easy with my S3.

Too bad there isn't a paypal account setup where people put their money into and once root has been achieved, it gets handed over to the person who figured everything out.

Each individual as root is achieved on their phone will pay. There was a mod post about this a page or two ago. It's for our protection that it is not this way.. Must be proven, released, and our phones successfully rooted.

I would advise sending a PM directly to anyone you have a specific question for (as there is noone else that can answer in this thread). In the meantime, it would be very much appreciated if we could keep in line with acceptable-post requested in OP (and throughout the last several pages). This kind of q&a will most likely lead to discussion that is not allowed.

Nothing wrong with curiosity. I was as polite as I could be in the request, and meant no disrespect. There just isnt anyone else that can answer this question but those it is clearly directed at.

Im not trying to be rude or discourage... but as you can see, this thread is on a short leash, and I am just doing my best to keep things in line before the mods have had enough.

    I put priority on getting this up quickly - so pretty directly used his format to get the bounty thread up and running.

    Bounty Details​

    While other S5 variants have been fortunate enough to receive root (and on some, unlocked BL) upon release day, we over here on the Verizon have had the unfortunate experience of ever-increasing doubt in whether root will be achieved on our device. As the logical (and expected) progression from the S4, the S5 is locked down tighter than a drum - and the consensus on this device is that root would be worthy of higher accolades, than what root and unlocked bootloaders would have garnished in past Galaxy devices. I would like to personally offer a $500 bounty to the first person able to find or create a method, exploit, or unlock that allows us to fully root and provide the necessary steps for rooting the Verizon (and now, ATT) Galaxy S5 here on XDA. I am hoping this bounty, as with any others that choose to pledge here, would be a helpful motivation to the developers willing to invest the time and effort in helping us unlock the potential of this great new device. Or (where applicable) that this bounty will be a humble counter-offer to other potential sources of revenue for such work.

    As the level of difficulty increases with each new device, the level of appreciation and admiration for those willing to find (and help find) such exploits increases exponentially. I cannot express my gratitude enough, for those who choose to tackle such an endeavor. In this vein, I would highly encourage any and all VZW/ATT S5 users to consider pledging a donation towards the efforts in helping us achieve this first-step. Please consider chipping in to this bounty, as this can only help increase our chances - and will help keep our variant in the minds of those who are willing and capable of finding an exploit. Those who want to help find an exploit, such as myself, but that lack the knowledge and experience in linux/java - this is your opportunity to help by contributing within your means. To reemphasize; this bounty is for achieving a root method/exploit only, and will apply to an unlock that precedes an explicit root method.

    I assume you're directing this partially at me because of the size of my pledge. I can assure you if root is found I will pay. You have nothing in this world if you don't have your word. I was the person who donated the cash for Adam Outlers S4 so he could help root/exploit.

    I firmly believe that if I can't contribute technical expertise then I should be contributing financially to help support those who work for nothing to provide us with root, etc.

    In fact, I will up my ante. I'll provide $1000 for a VZW root, $1000 for an ATT root, or $2,000 in total if it works for both.

    OK guys, thread is open again. Now let me weigh in on what I read, and removed.
    First, Donations are NOT required, and anyone asking for donations before release will be infracted. This is against forum rules, and it's unethical.
    Second, the malware issue. EVERY root method a form of malware. As with anything you do with your device, there is risk. That being said, any reports of unsavory practice in this release and it'll be taken down and verified.

    The negativity and arguing over the legitimacy of these claims will not be tolerated. The claims have piqued interest of some very knowledgeable people, so we'll know know very quickly what truths there are to be had here. Especially the bootloader unlock.

    Now let's keep it on point and civil, and wait to see what comes.
