I've been able to safely disable/uninstall GMS core / Google play services apk on 101 firmware (JB 4.3). I've noticed that the app becomes essential for logging into Google play store on KitKat 4.2+. This app is the primary reason for wake locks, battery drain and general poor performance in all KitKat versions. Can anyone suggest a method in KitKat wherein Google play store can be made too work without this app? My Google account login is only for accessing play store & downloading free apps, no gmail, music, talk, hangouts, G+, games, magazines, movies, contacts sync, calendar sync, settings & app sync newsstand, nothing else other than a login for using the play store.

Dead Cookies leave no trails...

If you uninstall all those apps that you don't need (especially g+) you will have no battery drain.
Oh, and I also greenify google play services and Google play store and I have a battery life as I never had before 4.4
I'm using Uninstall App Master from the play store to uninstall unnecessary apps ;)

If i understand clearly you don't use GAPS at all(except play store) you may check this - http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=1715375 NoGaps project- free, open source alter apps to Maps and Google Play.

If you facing the problem with battery drain try this

Finally I found a solution and I don't have more SystemUpdateService wakelocks. Seem to be caused by the last version of Google play service trying to connect to the OTA service to update the rom

Found in this post:

"Finally I was able to block the SystemUpdateService wakelock, using this app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...com.rs.autorun
go to settings, enable the option to show system entries
find google play services and disable:
SystemUpdateService$Receiver
SystemUpdateService$ActiveReceiver
SystemUpdateService$SecretCodeReceiver
done... no more wakelock and it didn't break anything, syncs all work ok"

I also disabled google plus, Google play books, Google play games, and google play movies. Before disabling, I cleared the apps cache and data and deleted the updates. (Also disabled socialife ). No drain and batterylife back to normal :)

Edit: on gps version 5.0.84

You may try disable service from play store.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cn.wq.disableservice

Application allready show which services running. You can disable whatever you want.

I've disabled location services of google play services. Still all applications work properly. Maps etc.

Ps. Also can disable silly push services of user app, that force them to run alltime.

Tried it and like it.
Only one question, what do the blue lines mean within the systemapps ? Does that mean it Is safe to disable that? Thanks in advance.

Blue ones means, they are running now. So you can see which service is running.
